About Me

Hello, my name is Gabi, and I'm an artist from Buenos Aires, Argentina. I come from a very artistic family, and I've been involved in music since I was very young. I am a composer and percussionist. The main instruments I play nowadays are the vibraphone and drums. However, I also play a lot of piano and symphonic percussion.

I have many friends, and what I love is sharing different perspectives of the world that each person constructs. I greatly enjoy having drinks and conversations with friends. I love dancing, playing music, watching movies, theater, going for walks, concerts, meeting new people, reading, and trying new foods. I love experiencing different cultures and learning about their art and local artists.

When I travel, I like to try new things, explore new places, and see how people live. I enjoy opening myself up to what I know and understand to listen and see other worldviews. It's about sharing and connecting with one another.

Professionally, I compose music for theater, film, advertising, and the musical groups I'm a part of. I also work as a session percussionist, play in an orchestra, and teach music in various contexts.

I direct an interdisciplinary project called "Zorzales." We are a research group composed of different artists, and our goal is to create a language of musical and scenic improvisation based on the songs of these birds that give the group its name (zorzales = thrushes).

Other musical projects I am involved in include the band "Saturno," with whom we have an album called "Víspera," and I produce my own music, which can be found on Spotify. Album: "Evocaciones."

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I love to travel, and while I enjoy typical tourist plans, I find it more interesting to meet local people because I feel it's the best way to get to know their culture, understand how they live, and what matters to them.
I enjoy creating networks of friends across the world and sharing our experiences, staying in touch.

Music, Movies, and Books

What I enjoy the most is discovering new things. I'm fascinated by encountering new worlds, whether they're auditory, poetic, or cinematic. While I greatly enjoy some artists whom I'll mention shortly, what truly captivates my interest is finding new voices. As a composer, I believe that my identity is shaped by the ability to incorporate a diverse range of voices that intrigue me into my internal listening, allowing these influences to blend together.

Throughout my life, I have studied and played many styles of music, such as jazz, Argentine folklore, rock, tango, pop, classical and contemporary music, and film scoring. I particularly enjoy free improvisation and free jazz.

Artists who blow my mind: Radiohead, Bjork, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Joe Hisaishi, Luis Alberto Spinetta, Tom Jobim, The Beatles, Morphine, Blind Melon, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, Keith Jarrett, Paul Motian, Astor Piazzolla, Badbadnotgood, Floating Points, Igor Stravinsky, Claude Debussy, Frédéric Chopin, Rosalía, Gorillaz, King Crimson, and many others.

I enjoy reading poetry. Honestly, I haven't read many novels; I'm more into short stories. I delve into philosophy a lot, as well as theoretical texts on topics that greatly interest me. Nonetheless, I love fiction.

Authors I have enjoyed reading: (Argentinian) Oesterheld and López, Borges, Cortázar, Girondo, Enriquez, Pizarnik, Blatt, Ioshua, Capellano, Fogwill
(from outside Argentina) Rilke, Artaud, Blake, Whitman, Jean-Luc Nancy, Donna Haraway, Peter Brook, Sartre, Nietzsche, Alan Moore, Castaneda, Hesse, Henry Miller, Houellebecq, Tolkien, Lem, Bradbury, Kandinsky, Freud, Jung, Szymborska, Italo Calvino, Bachelard, Jodorowski, John Cage.

Movies: Many things can capture my interest. I'm fascinated by Lynch, Bergman, Kubrick, Miyazaki, Scorsese, Allen, Kurosawa, among many others.
