CURRENT MISSION

Not to have a mission

ABOUT ME

I live in Appalachia. I was born and spent my early years on the Upper West side of Manhattan. At the age of 7 we moved to Westbury, Long Island. Westbury is a middle class suburb where the houses were very closely spaced together. Inside those houses you will find lots of chandeliers and plastic on the furniture. The best part was that it was only twenty five miles from Manhattan.

It has taken me a long time to figure out exactly what I wanted to do with my life. so for quite some time, I bounced around dropping in and out of school. Finally I just dropped out and took small parts in plays, worked on soap operas and did extra work in movies. I was nearing thirty. It didn't look like I was going to become the great actress that I thought I would be, so I got my bachelors degree.

When I graduated, I thought the world would be my oyster. It was not. So I ended up with a job as a receptionist at an off Broadway theater company. This was not the way I thought I would end up. I did continue to work off Broadway in production capacities such as stage manager, assistant director and I worked as a director in very quirky and not very good off off Broadway shows. But I was getting older and it still seemed like I was going nowhere. I answered an employment ad in Backstage. It was one of those huge law firms seeking English majors.I applied for the job and was accepted. since the pay was good, I took it.

After several months on the job, I figured that I could be a lawyer. Humility was never my strong suit. So,I applied to law schools costing under ten thousand dollars. I ended up at the West Virginia University Law School. I remained in the state, and now work as a public defender.

In all honesty, I'm still trying to figure out what to be when I grow up.

PHILOSOPHY

Money and status don't interest me as much as originality and authenticity.

Por qué estoy en Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am happy to surf and host. I do not have luxurious surroundings, but there is a private bedroom for anyone who wants to come to Charleston, West Virginia.
I don't know what hosting a Couch Surfing gathering would entail, but it sounds interesting.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

When I was twenty years old, I back packed my way through Europe. There was no formal couch surfing in those days, but if I recall there was an unorganized effort where a lot of people slept on many couches. I have also put people up in my house for periods of time throughout my life in different geographical locations.

Intereses

I wouldn't be on this site if I didn't love to travel. My last trip was to Prague and Budapest. I enjoy traveling on the cheap, and when I can afford it I like to go luxe. One of my favorite places is Buenos Aires. I also enjoy Mexico, and go there often. I have traveled through Europe, some of the middle east and parts of Northern Africa.

I also enjoy good wine and good food. I like getting together with people and cooking a large elaborate meal. I enjoy a good conversation on a wide range of topics.

I am a widely read person. The problem is once I finish the book and move on to another I have forgotten that I have read it. I can only remember it with detail when the book is mentioned randomly in conversation.

Algo increíble que he hecho

I used to be a waitress. One night I was stiffed by a fairly well known rock star for $500.00. I thought he would be good for the money. Any way my manager said I either collect the money or I was fired. I found out that the next night he would be at CBGB's. So I went down to the club. He was socializing back stage. I asked him for the money, and he pulled out a wad of bills and paid his tab. I did not get fired, but I did a year later.

Enseña, aprende, comparte

I'd like to learn to be a better driver.
