About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Taking the opportunity to explore new places to meet new people and learn along the way.
ABOUT ME
I am taking a gap year from my education job for 2022-23 year to visit new places and meet people to learn about these places from their eyes.
I don't want to wait until I'm older and retired to experience all the world has to offer because tomorrow is never guaranteed.
I have been teaching social studies for over 20 years and there isn't much history related I don't love. Always something to learn. Travel is my biggest passion and I always have the next trip in mind. People are what make places the most interesting. I raise honey bees and try to find a local beekeeper when I travel to learn new ideas. I have the wanderlust and coach surfing allows me to meet people with a similar passion.
PHILOSOPHY
Leave a place better than you found it.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Surfed some couches in Europe, and the people I have met along the way have made my travel experience outstanding. Went to a few CS events while traveling, and looking to be involved locally now that I am home.
Many American are freaked by the concept, but I have spread the word and recruited several new members in my travels.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Surfed a couple of couches, and got travel advice from many. Met really great people in the process, and I love finding like-minded people around the world.

Thrift Stores, estate sales and garage sales are a great pastime. The hunt for the next best bargain. It's great to reuse items instead of them ending up in landfills.

Music, Movies, and Books
I like non-fiction memoirs, history or biography books. I've read alot of books this year..some serious, some not. I think I have read almost all of Bill Bryson's book when I traveled. Bookseller of Kabul is a favorite and the Sex Lives of Cannibals makes me laugh out loud. Love Troost humor in his writing!
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Working in 3 orphanages in Tam Ky, Vietnam. Amazing experience!
Spent 18 days in Kenya. Worked in a refugee camp and orphanage...left due to violence, but can't wait to go back.
Volunteer with a great organization, Peacejam, that pairs youth with Nobel Peace Winners. Great seeing kids who want to change the world for the better.
Teach, Learn, Share
I would love to share my experiences working in an orphange in Vietnam and a refugee camp in Kenya. I always have good teaching stories from my 10 years of teaching. If I can learn about the people and history of places, I can share this knowledge with my students. I am ready to learn!!! I can give great advice on traveling in Michigan, And take you to some of the best places if I'm not working. If your here in summer, can teach you to kayak and in winter we could go snowshoeing.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I can give you pointers of great places to visit all-over Michigan. It really has some gems.
Want to know more about honeybees...i have lots to tell. They are fascinating.
