About Me
CURRENT MISSION
It's been a long, strange trip...may it be even longer!
ABOUT ME
We live in a log house that we built ourselves from the trees and rocks on our 27 acres of land. We have 3 grown children and (nearly) 6 grandchildren, all ages 5 and under! Our dog, Davenport, accompanies us when we go to our cottage in Bar Harbor, Maine and hike and kayak in Acadia, near our little house. We also have a cat named Three Lip (our granddaughter's naming) who helps keep the mousies outdoors. We have a 26' full keel sailboat named Oriana, which we hope to get repaired to take to Maine. Now, we are sailing her in Oneida Lake, the largest lake in New York State.
PHILOSOPHY
Someone else said it better than we, "live simply so that others may simply live."
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
We hope to meet many people on our travels and to host people in our home either in upstate New York, or in summer, in Bar Harbor. We have met people along the way in our travels and have hosted them.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
We met two people hiking down the trail in the Grand Canyon, many years ago. They were from Germany. When they came to NY later on, they stayed with us. We also met Nina and Henrik from Norway, who are sailing around the world. We helped them adopt a kitty to travel with them, and had them at our house for dinner, internet connections, and showers.

Music, Movies, and Books
Don's favorite movie is "Pirates." Mine is probably "La Strada." We love the Canadian roots band, Tanglefoot, and regret that after many years, they are coming off the road. We will see them live for the last time later in October, 2009.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Well, it's all amazing. As we look back on our long lives, we think about building this big log house that we now live in, using only a chain saw! We raised three wonderful children here and they are now out in the world, having their own families. We look at the photo of our family from last Thanksgiving and we realize that we started it all over thirty years ago!
Teach, Learn, Share
We'll get back to this. We're new to this, but definitely not to life!
