About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To develop exceptional learning experiences, write and play music, exercise, raise smiles and meet new people!

ABOUT ME

Open minded with a passion for music, comedy, retro games and media. Long distance runner, part time triathlete and love an open water swim if the opportunity arises. Enjoy cooking, good company, drinks and a dance if the groove is right.

I write songs and try to play them on my guitar(s), occasionally toot a trumpet and will bang on a drum if there's one knocking about.

Spent 18 months travelling Australia, New Zealand and Thailand. Had some amazing experiences, met lots of interesting characters and saw some stunning, crazy sights. Spent as much time off the usual 'tourist trail' as possible thanks to the kindness of local people and the wonder of the CS community. Volcano climbing and hitch-hiking in New Zealand, cattle mustering in Australia and advanced scuba diving in Thailand were particular highlights.

PHILOSOPHY

Raise a smile, sing a song, spread the love and whistle along.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have been a CS member for many years now, surfed many couches 'down under', met many great characters from all over Europe and beyond and have been involved in many a memorable CS BBQ home and abroad. Spent many months living in Nottingham immersed in the wonderful CS scene within this vibrant city. Reciprocated whilst living in North London and hosted couchsurfers from all over the globe when life permitted in South London. Currently in the process of finding somewhere to live with my wife outside of London. Look forward to hosting once more when we are settled and spruced!

Recommend CS to those embarking on their travels for the first time or anyone seeking to gain a residents perspective of a new area.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Have surfed all over New Zealand and Australia, from Bondi - Byron bay, Perth - Broome, Hobart - Darwin, Taupo - Queenstown. Have met many gracious hosts and many fantastic people. Long lasting friendships have been formed and I have yet to have a truly negative CS experience...

Have so far hosted happy campers from France, Romania, Ireland, Turkey, Australia, Japan and the U.S. I love the random banter, cooking and sing-alongs that this has spawned!

Interests

MUSIC! Regardless of genre, popularity or context. Basically, if there is true passion or a strong message involved then it's worth a listen...rock, classical, funk, punk, folk, electro, jazz, hip-hop, rap, acoustic...

I also run long distances at a good pace without getting tired, compete in open water swimming events and sometimes do the odd Triathlon April - October. Enjoy writing songs, singing and playing guitar solo and in different bands across London and the South. Currently writing and performing with a cellist.

Enjoy watching films and my movie tastes are as diverse as my musical perspective. I'm currently trying to build up my film collection with 'quality' timeless, ground breaking classics....anything from Easy Rider to Dumbo to Pulp fiction and Spirited Away.

Retro gamer - original GameBoy, Sega Mega Drive, Half-Life series, N64, arcade games etc etc

Like reading, enjoy fiction mostly, Philip Pullman, Tolkien, Yann martel, Robin Jarvis, CS Lewis, Jonathan Stroud, Steig Larsson, Ben Aaronovitch. I also collect submarine related films, musician biographies and auto-biographies, they fascinate me and I'm not sure why.....

Rocking out to Rage Against the Machine in the beautiful Coachella Valley California with 2 of my best mates and a load of CS nutbars!

Teach, Learn, Share

A good friend of mine said: seek and ye shall discover...and also, never drink and ride in Amsterdam. Sound advice indeed. He'd just got back from an amazing cycling tour around Holland and had met loads of interesting people thanks to an initiative called Couchsurfing. Intrigued, I decided to check it out and have been blown away by the depth and scope of the 'global village' ever since.
