About Me

Hi! I’m Gregorio Juárez, and I live in Corpus Christi, a beautiful city on the Texas Gulf Coast. I’ve been here for about 23 years, though I’ve also lived in Ohio. I grew up in Raymondville, South Texas, and after high school I moved to Ohio to attend the University of Findlay. Life eventually brought me back to Texas, where I now happily call Corpus Christi home.

I’m an educator and absolutely love what I do. I teach Spanish at Gregory-Portland High School and am also adjunct faculty at Texas A&M University–Corpus Christi. There’s never a boring day in Señor Juárez’s Spanish class! My work keeps me busy, but I truly enjoy it.

When I’m not working, I like spending time on house projects and working in my gardens. I love traveling, learning about different cultures, and meeting people from around the world. I’ve traveled extensively throughout the U.S. and Mexico, and while I haven’t traveled much in recent years, I’m excited to start exploring again.

In the meantime, I enjoy hosting couchsurfers and have had some great experiences doing so. I love good conversations, cultural exchange, and making people feel welcome. If you’re open-minded, respectful, and enjoy sharing stories, we’ll probably get along great!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

My Theta Chi fraternity instilled in me the importance of extending a helping hand to those in need. That’s one of the reasons I’ve opened my home to host fellow couchsurfers. I truly enjoy getting to know travelers and exchanging stories, ideas, cooking recipes, and so much more. It’s amazing how kind and open-minded couchsurfers are, and how willing they are to share their life experiences.

I’ve learned a great deal from the couchsurfers I’ve hosted, and I hope they’ve learned something from me as well.

Music, Movies, and Books

I listen to and appreciate most kinds of music (except rap, jajaja 😄), but when I’m driving my truck, it’s almost always country music.

I don’t watch much TV since I juggle two pretty demanding jobs. When it comes to books, I’m open to all genres. I usually save my reading for the summer and make a list for when I finally have some downtime.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I used to raise quail just for fun. I had Texas Blue Scale quail, Bobwhites, and Gambel’s quail, and it was one of the coolest experiences I’ve ever had—especially during mating season. There was something almost magical about collecting the eggs, placing them in the incubator, and then, about 20 days later, waking up to the tiny chirps of newly hatched quail. These baby birds were unbelievably small and fragile, and it never stopped amazing me how something so tiny could survive and thrive.

Teach, Learn, Share

I’m pretty good at teaching Spanish and can cook a really good caldo de pollo. I’m also great at giving relaxing, full-body massages. As for sharing, I have plenty of stories—from school life to personal experiences—and I’m always happy to exchange a good story or two.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I love sharing my time, a good meal, and meaningful, fun conversation with my host.
