About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Explore new places and meet interesting people

ABOUT ME

a list of positive adjectives (which I would rather show in person):
adventurous, social, always happy, artsy, handy, Brazilian, foodie, kind, simplistic, light-hearted, respectful, open-minded, open to try anything once, organized, healthy, right-handed, very easy to please, always hungry.

My day to day life is focused on continuing my own ceramics business by selling handmade dinnerware to restaurants and making/exhibiting my artwork. This means spending long hours in my studio sitting on the potter's wheel so I can perfect my craft and be successful. I also lead a student group called Clay for Change. We help organize fundraisers, free workshops, and events utilizing clay as a means of social change. On my free time I'm going to any city event I can find. If its related to art, food, or music you can guarantee I will be there. Salsa in the park? Yes. Poetry Slam? definitely. Basement concert? Count me in.

PHILOSOPHY

I live by these four quotes:

"If you think adventure is dangerous, try routine, it is lethal."
-Paulo Coelho

"We waste so many days waiting for weekend. So many nights wanting morning. Our lust for future comfort is the biggest thief of life."
-Joshua Glenn Clark

“So many people live within unhappy circumstances and yet will not take the initiative to change their situation because they are conditioned to a life of security, conformity, and conservatism, all of which may appear to give one peace of mind, but in reality nothing is more dangerous to the adventurous spirit within a man than a secure future. The very basic core of a man’s living spirit is his passion for adventure. The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun.”
― Jon Krakauer, Into the Wild

"The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page.”
Augustine of Hippo

My world view is that of a secular humanist. The life I want consists of new experiences, good-hearted people, a desire to change the worlds ills, and participate in the pursuit of happiness for all. I try to be as happy as I can, control my emotions with simple meditation, and enjoy the little things in life. I really encourage people to be independent, self-motivated, more easy going, appreciative of the happy sides of things, and more risk taking. I want the best for other people and I try to challenge traditional or dogmatic ways of thinking if it may be holding someone back from becoming their full selves.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have surfed before while traveling through multiple cities in America and Canada. Sometimes I can attend CS meetups when I have the time. Not hosting anytime soon but I am available to hang out whenever I am free!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

For 2 summers in a row,I went on a 10-city backpacking trip through the US and Canada and surfed at a few places along the way. Besides CS, I do travel often and my house does rent out rooms for international students so I've made friends from South Korea, Taiwan, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Mexico, and more!

Music, Movies, and Books

I have a huge variety of favorites, difficult to name them all, I will get to this part soon.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I won a big ideas competition for GOOD magazine once
Took a plane from Brazil watching the sun set, then arrived in NYC watching the sun rise.
Played a piano in the city when it was quiet and empty at 3am
Jumped off a plane twice
Made a fire with nothing but wood and tinder
Did a 30 day art challenge where I painted, took photos, and drew a picture everyday. Did another one where I watched a documentary everyday.
More to come!

Teach, Learn, Share

I have a huge love for learning so when I meet people I try to slowly get them to reveal to me what life has taught them or some interesting fact they know. In return I offer my own experiences, education, and fun facts. Ask me about my interests. I know the best way to tie your shoes, I'll teach you how to measure time by looking at the sun.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Anything I can possibly teach, some stories, and maybe a souvenir from the travels. If you are lucky, I will give you a personal handmade ceramic piece to remember me by :)
