ABOUT ME

I am a nurse by profession, but a friend first. I am a minimalist by nature and enjoy a simple life. I've always loved to travel, partially for to the adventure of new sites, scenery, and food, partially for the mystery of what I'll accidentally stumble upon, and mostly for the new people I meet with stories to share.

I am an outdoor enthusiast who loves adventure! I love backpacking, climbing, camping, hammocking, ultimate frisbee, and everything in between. I live a very active lifestyle and love to put my body to work. I run, bicycle, rock climb, and practice yoga on a regular basis. I believe that God gave me only one body, and it's my duty to take care of it. I love cooking fresh and nutritious meals, but am definitely guilty of a sweet tooth; this is usually quenched with fresh baked goods as I am a baker at heart! I live in a big city and love to use my bike as a means of transportation. All of these things make up my life's philosophy of living simply, yet purposefully.

Bourg St. Maurice, France: I spent three weeks here working on an organic farm through WWOOF in 2010. I lived with a host family which gave me a very authentic French experience. The biggest thing I came away with was the lifestyle difference than that of Americans. Specifically, I loved the sense of community the town of Bourg St. Maurice shared. For example, my host offered her farming labor to her neighbor for five hours in exchange for the construction of wooden bee boxes. However, if this had been in the States, my host would have simply hired someone she didn't know to build the boxes, and her neighbor would have hired laborers to help him on his farm. I loved the exchange of services as favors to each other, highlighting each others gifts and talents.

Half Dome, Yosemite National Park; California, USA: I survived this hike/climb in the summer of 2012 with two girlfriends. I knew I had a small fear of heights, but I was astonished at the level of fear I experienced during this trek. I truly do not think I would have completed this climb without the support of my two girlfriends. Both girls coached me through Half Dome on the way up as well as on the way down. The bond that resulted from this is indescribable. I am forever thankful for both of these girls! Not only did I learn about myself, but I also learned to cherish those I can lean on. Additionally, I was rewarded with one of the most spectacular views of all of Yosemite from the very top of Half Dome. It was breath-taking!
