About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Survive The Swedish Winter

ABOUT ME

My friends say I am a classic 'no drama' person: easy to get along with, hard to get mad, and always open to viewing life from another perspective.

PHILOSOPHY

"You only get out what you put in"

And yes, that is also the slogan for Nutri-grain (Australian cereal), but I still stand by it 100%.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I'll fill this out after I've had a couple

Interests

I am very interested in my current work / study, which is in Software Engineering. It's cooler than it sounds ... I hope.

In my free time I like to get outside and do something different when the chance arises, be that going on an outdoors adventure or simply a laid back afternoon at the pub with friends. I am prone to the occasional bout of internet procrastination, although has ceased since I set out on my latest trip.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: Anything that makes you think for a while after the movie, or is just very immersive. Recent movies I've enjoyed are Rush (2013), Django Unchained, Perks of Being a Wallflower. All time favourites include most of Tarantino's movies, The Matrix, Donnie Darko, Big Lebowski.

Music: I have a very wide taste, and like both music before my time as well as some more modern stuff. From the previous generations, I enjoy Mussorgsky's Pictures at an exhibition (as well as other Romantic music), the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, some Pink Floyd. More contemporary artists I enjoy are Justice, BT, Daft Punk, The XX. I prefer music where lyrics don't play a large part, and music that is well mastered.

Books: I don't read books as much as I should. I have however been catching up on my recent European trip. The last books I read were Catch 22, Around the World in 80 days, and Priceonomics: everything is bullshit. Most of my reading is articles to do with my field (software), which I read a lot of online.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I went paragliding in Switzerland a week or so ago. There may have been something better, but that is at the top of my mind right now. I think I will update once I have done skydiving (which was cancelled in Switzerland due to weather), which will hopefully be quite soon

Teach, Learn, Share

I am most skilled in my work, being software development (writing computer programs). Have any questions about that, I'm your guy. I am a decent chess player, play the Tuba, and I remember many trivial and meaningless facts that I can only recall in irrelevant conversations - although I'm not sure that's a skill worth passing on.

I would like to learn to cook decently. I have been living in institutions (boarding school and college) for most of my life, and in the short summer stints where I lived by myself I made steak, eggs, or fish every night, so some culinary prowess would go a long way in my life. (Note that if you host me I can certainly help out around the kitchen and clean up, just don't ask that I take charge in the kitchen).
