About Me

Hi! My name is Hannah Assumption (interesting surname I know). Im from South Africa, living in Connecticut, USA for the next couple of months. Since I am already living as a guest in another family's home, I cannot host however I can make that up by teaching you about my own culture.

NOTE: Although Ive been a member since 2017, I haven't used my account in a while and haven't actually travelled to any host. I am very very willing to share any social media about myself to show how much of an avid traveller I am. I do have a friend who is a previous Couch surfer and can vouch for me as a personal reference.

I am a passionate traveller and constantly try to take in the culture and meet new people wherever I go.

Things you might want to know about me (or not, but its here if you change your mind):

-ENFP
-Have been in the States for the past (Ive forgotten... 20 maybe? ) months and have travelled to around 21 states.
-Gryffindor (Pottermore certified... although I secretly believe I'm suppose to be in Hufflepuff)
- Huge Marvel universe fan
- I have a tattoo in my ribcage dedicated to my younger brother who has Autism, so Im an avid Autism Awareness supporter.
- A dream destination is Disney world in Orlando (haven't gotten there yet BUT its in the works)
-Oreos are my Kryptonite ('nuf said)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I see couchsurfing very much like a 2 for 1 deal, while yes saving money on accommodation helps, getting to meet locals in a new area is basically the best thing you can do. I am in constant search of hidden gems wherever I go and the best people to go for those are the locals. At the same time, I'm a very bubbly and open person so I love meeting new people wherever I go.

Ive travelled quite a lot over my 2 years in America. Some accommodation through hotels with friends, which is mostly enjoyable until you find yourself in "the middle of nowhere" Wisconsin (thats literally how a local described it when she asked why a South African and and a British Native were travelling through there.. an interesting story actually) sleeping in a motel with sticky floors (weird right??) paying $80 for a night. Now apart from the money aspect, which was ridiculous to say the least, you don't gain anything from that experience. Yet with Couch Surfing, you basically have the kindness of a local opening up their home and life to you, at the hope that they can benefit from the experience you've had as a traveller... wow!

Sorry, I tend to ramble on a lot but I hope that somehow that all made sense.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: Basically if I hear a song and I like it, it becomes a favourite. Lately been more into favourites from the 2000s, so if you can call 'throwbacks' a music genre, its my favourite.
Movies: Anything but horror. I am a sucker though for a good Rom Com.
Books: Harry Potter, the Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children series, anything by Sophie Kinsella (again, sucker for a good Rom Com), currently reading The Hobbit.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Does moving to America to live with complete strangers and look after their child for a year and a half, at 19 years old count?
(If not, then I'm pretty sure I've done something amazing... I just can't remember it right now)

Teach, Learn, Share

Teach: I completed my first aid level 3 (kinda like just under your BLS certification), so I can teach you how to basic medical support
How to cook South African food.
Speak Afrikaans (very similar to Dutch)
Learn: Im still very young and I will admit, naive about the world, so I just want to learn about life experiences and lessons through other people. I believe if you're willing to put in the effort to find it, everyone you meet can teach you something new.
Share: I just wanna share life experiences and thoughts on the world. We don't need to stay up until 2am laying in a grass field watching the stars but a good cup of tea and some Oreos won't hurt.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can share life stories, experiences, recipes, jokes, dreams, hopes, aspirations... Im not that great with politics but I'll try... all I look for is someone who's interested and willing to share as much with me as I share with them; if so, then I'm an open book.
