About Me

I was born in Düsseldorf, and at the age of 4 months, my parents and I moved to Namibia (a gorgeous place). At the age of 10, we then moved to South Africa where I also finished my schooling. While looking for university courses I stumbled across one in Germany - I also thought it would be nice to get to know my birth country. So now I've been living in Freiburg for about 2 years, where I am studying Liberal Arts and Sciences, focusing on Neuroscience. I've now completed a year abroad at the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

In my free time I enjoy doing yoga. I tend to binge watch series and read a lot. I really enjoy copying down quotes and painting. Other than that I spend my time looking for new cooking recipes to try or just experimenting with the ingredients I have. My outdoor activities include diving, inline skating, ballroom dancing and climbing.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

For me its a way to get to know people, specifically local people. From personal experience, I've noticed that while touristy places are interesting one doesn't really get to know places so well. If you really want to get to know a place, get to know its people. How they live, what they do, where they love going. Every place has small nooks and crannies that a tourist will generally not find. It's through locals that one really gets to know a place.

Also (as I'm sure everyone knows) as a student I live on a tight budget.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music:
I'm a big fan of the more classical music directions, I adore the romantic area and composers like Rachmaninoff, Chopin, Tchaikovsky, Dvorak. I love listening to film music and identifying what movies that soundtrack comes from. I also enjoy some of the more recent genres, but generally I stay away from anything to goes towards Dubstep, Trance and Techno.

Books:
Books are certainly part of my life, again I'm also a fan of quite a few classical authors. Jane Austen, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Thomas Hardy, Oscar Wilde, William Blake, Emily Dickinson. Quite a few fantasy series such as Harry Potter, of course, and my current favorite is the Kingkiller Chronicle series (I'm in awe of the writing style). I absolutely love stories, which is why I generally listen to audiobooks as well. Who doesn't enjoy a story being read to them?

Movies
Again, movies are like stories so I know a substantial amount of them. Every now and again, I am a total sucker for romantic comedies. I'm also a big fan of the Marvel and DC movies. Disney and Pixar for the win! I don't care how old I am, I love most animation movies.
Death at a Funeral, Secondhand Lion, K-pax, Hunt for Red October, the Blind Side, Invictus, Shawshank Redemption, the Freedom Writers, Intouchables, Adore, The Dressmaker... etc etc. (I could go on for a while)
Actually, I love most movies, especially those that have a twist at the end that I can't foresee (Pre-Destination

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Well...
I played with lion cubs at the age of two. I have petted a leopard and ridden an ostrich. I dived with a southern wright whale and cow sharks. I recently went diving in eastern Thailand where I was up close and personal with whale sharks.
I was able to touch a little piece of the moon.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can share my knowledge of cooking. I can explain the dynamics and my experiences of diving.
I can teach English and show you some wonderful yoga moves and meditation techniques. I also have a few acro-yoga positions that I can share. I can also show you how to play the flute or play you a few pieces.

I would love to discuss travel places, I've been bitten by the travel bug and can't wait to head off to my next adventure. In general, I am always open to learning new things as well.

What I Can Share with Hosts

My movie and series collection, stories, my cooking expertise and favorite recipes, Acroyoga, Yoga, and meditation techniques. I can also play some beautiful flute pieces for you (given I bring it, of course).
