About Me

+++ My current Trip (2023) +++
We are Julia (24) and Hannes (23) from Germany and currently travelling Latin America. We enjoy getting to know new people and want to get in touch with the interests, insights in professions and stories they can share. This is why we like the concept of Couchsurfing. We don't want to travel from hostel to hostel and from Sightseeing to sightseeing. Couchsurfing, in contrast, gives us the opportunity to meet great people.
We will start our trip in Bolivia and want to travel to Columbia, maybe also to Brazil and Ecuador.

Julia grew up on a small farm in southern Germany. She would describe herself as quite a happy person with a lot of energy. Sharing smiles and special moments with other people gives her a lot of joy. She tries to appreciate the little things in life and values good conversations over most things. Nature has become very important to her in recent years and she admires and respects it very much. When she is not travelling, Julia studies Social Science and works in different jobs. Apart from traveling, she is looking forward to focus on her bachelors project which will be located in Colombia.

Hannes lives in Halle (Saale) and studies Media- and Communication Science and Sociology there. He is a very open person and interested in the stories other people tell him. He did a lot of voluntary work in associations and enjoys creative work. This is why he likes photography, graphic design and media production. He also enjoys nature and likes to learn new skills by doing things he never did before.

We know each other since over five years and travelled quite a lot together. Getting deep insights in a region and having good conversations with the people who live there became really important to us. We are very uncomplicated regarding the living conditions - we don't need much and always have a tent with us. Besides from traveling, we are both into screen printing projects, climate activism, climbing, cooking and discovering new interests and getting to know new people. - So we are looking forward to meet you!:)

+++ My Couchsurfing profile in general +++

I'm Hannes, 23 years old. Currently I'm living in Halle (Saale) near Leipzig because I'm studying there sociology, psychology and media/communication-studies. What I like is to be always on the move and getting to know many different environments.
That's why I like it to be part of the Couchsurfing network and to welcome or visit other people.

According to some people, I am the master of developing freaky interests, being absolutely thrilled into it for a few days or weeks and not finishing anything of it. But sometimes I also finish things - like when I do some cooking experiments, Graphic Design Projects or political education and youth exchange.
Besides my studies I am interested in Climate Justice Issues and volunteering in an organisation led by young people from Germany and Southeast Europe which is engaged in youth education and empowerment for solidarity, open society and anti-racism.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I really liked all the storys and perspectives other couchsurfers gave me. And I like the idea of non-commercial travelling and a community that is able to establish a system besides of anonymous consuming. (Update: Meeeh, Couchsurfing turned a commercial platform few years ago O.o) But whatever: The people here still live the spirit of sharing things with and being open to others!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Maybe the evening when we were lost in a city in Georgia because the campside where we wanted to sleep simply didn't exist at all. There was a guy that found us and invited us for dinner. He had no space in his home to host us but offered us to place our tent in his garden. After dinner, when we realized it will be a cold night, he asked us if we want to place the tent in the garage instead of the garden.

Other great experiences were traveling through Bosnia, Serbia, Kosovo and Albania with my 7 Flatmates and visiting many people there or my trip from Germany to Greece only by hitchhiking.

Aaah and there was this one moment in der Berlin Underground when the doors of the train split a Kebab exactly in the middle because someone hasn't paid attention when they closed. That was also a great experience. 🤔😄
