About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Mission? Is that what we have at work and I have never understood?

ABOUT ME

Ole: I'm a bit of a computer geek; but I am able to communicate on non technical topics too. At least for a short while.

Vangie: Nature-lover. Can be a bit moody but it just depends on which side of the bed I woke up on. :)

PHILOSOPHY

You never regret what you do, only what you don't do.

Better have a lively (and heated) argument with a friend who tells you how it is rather than a stab in the back...

Interests

Japan has a lot of beautiful nature and famous mountains, one of them is the set of Famous 100 Mountains (or Hyakumeisan). We are trying to hike as much as we can and to date, have done 30 mountains tops (including Fuji) since Golden week this year. According to our Japanese hiking friends, that is pretty good rate! It is a great way of travelling the country as the mountains are spread across Japan. We have done all the tops in Kyushu, Northern Honshu, Shikoku and others west of Tokyo. Plan to snowshoe the ones in Hokkaido this winter. During our 3 weeks holiday, we completed 13 mountains tops, combined with driving 3000kms, tenting, learning how to make soba noodles. Included here is completing the famous North Alps Traverse from Kamikochi to Tateyama which we did in 5 straight days! Started from 1500m, and climbed to 3189m. The traverse is along the ridge and never going down below 2300m (only until the exit point). So you can you see what the current main hobby is: Hiking to be with with nature. :) Others include cycling, motorbiking, travelling, walking around the city, reading, listening to music, enjoy company of good friends, relaxing. We want to learn other outdoor sports as it would be nice to do new things and improve on current skills. Future interest maybe canoeing/ kayaking, rock climbing. And now that we live in Bergen, there will be plenty of opportunities to try kayaking.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Just did the entire North Alps traverse in Japan from Kamikochi to Tateyama in 5 days (and tented). Fantastic experience.

(OLE)Spent three months walking and cycling the length of Norway in 2004.

(EVANGELINE)Worked in offshore oil rig with Scotsmen for 1.5 years in the North Sea. Handled explosives to perform perforations on oil wells. Nearly died hiking Kita-dake (North Alps in Japan) when I slipped (200m vertical difference) on a steep snowy slope and felt how 9.8 m/s2 operated! No broken bones.. but lost our favorite Canon Digital camera. :(
