Overview
About Me
Hi, my name is Jake, your friendly neighbourhood Canadian. Some of my favourite things to do are cook/eat delicious food, try new drinks, recreational sports, travel, and play or listen to music!
I always knew when I was younger that travelling would become a prominent (and expensive) hobby of mine. Since I've moved out from home, I've seen most of Canada, Cuba, Jamaica, and most recently I took off to Norway for a 6 month international exchange for school! It's been a liberating experience.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Truth be told, it's always nice to find a place to rest my head for a reasonable price. More importantly though, I have a pretty strong travel philosophy that shuns the idea of bougie hotel stays and being segregated from the cultures of the places I visit.
In my opinion, theres no better way to learn about or experience a country's culture than to "grind with the locals." Eat their food, drink with them, follow their advice. And what better way to make friends?

Music, Movies, and Books
I listen to literally everything under the Sun, but the majority of my library consists of rock, metal, or indie.
Movies, gotta go with Forest Gump, anything with Robin Williams or Jim Carrey in it, or Harry Potter.
Books, I'm a huge Kurt Vonnegut fan, but I mostly read non-fiction, especially on food culture and consumption, and educational philosophy.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Skinny-dipped in the Arctic Ocean in February immediately after summitting a mountain.
Teach, Learn, Share
I love to discuss things that I'm passionate about, but I love even more to listen to others do the same.
I am an aspiring teacher by profession so sharing ideas and methods to doing things is a bit of a proficiency of mine.
That being said, I also like to think I'm pretty acutely aware of the nuances of the cultures and places I visit, and I like sharing things like that.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I laugh a lot, so you'll feel like all your jokes suddenly got funnier.
On a more serious note, I loooove cooking for people in repayment for their hospitality. I strongly believe that food and drink are the best ways to make friends and share time, and working with new ingredients and methods is always exciting.
Other than that, we can also sing songs and play guitar, or just chat about things we're passionate about!
