About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Lose some weight

ABOUT ME

I live in Manchester city centre with my flat mate Will. We've both been in Manchester 5 years now, having both been to University here. I studied Sociology and Will did Art History (both useless in getting a job). I am originally from Leeds, Will is from London.

Whilst at uni, we started a band and played at parties and did a bit of Djing, this inexplicably turned out to be pretty popular with students, as we were mainly doing it for our own fun. In time we ended up throwing a weekly party at a Manchester club, along with two other friends. Somehow, this ended up becoming our jobs after graduating, and we now run our own little business putting on nights across the country, and booking DJs and artists. We have nights in Manchester, London, Nottingham, Sheffield, Leeds and Newcastle. This has given us a pretty good idea of stuff to do in these cities across England; we can give any travelling couchsurfers tips on things to see, and avoid.

As with most of you on here I love traveling, all my spare money tends to go on flights to somewhere. So far I've made it to all continents except the poles and South America.

Unless we dont have to, its fair to say both me and Will are night owls and tend to get up late. If you are in bed by 9.30pm every night we are not the people to stay with. This is mainly due to our jobs, but the best stuff happens at night anyway.

PHILOSOPHY

Well, this has all gotten very serious...
Don't take things too seriously.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

We both are happy to put up a variety of people in our flat. We're interested in meeting people who have a good story, and can give tips and ideas of where to go on our own travels that we might not otherwise find out about.
Although I haven't personally done any couch surfing yet, I plan on traveling through the USA in the future, and would also like to walk through Andalusia this summer.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

No official experience as of yet! Although Ive hitchhiked before and was put up by some great people over night.

Interests

I play guitar and attempt at making my own music.
I enjoy hill walking; there are some excellent spots 30 minutes outside of Manchester on the train.
I like cooking and trying new foods; I always think one of the best parts of travelling is eating new cuisine and drinking the local tipple.
Spare time consists of going to gigs and socialising with friends in the pub.

Music, Movies, and Books

Currently attempting Naked Lunch by William Burroughs, again. Last book I read and enjoyed was As I Walked Out One Summers Morning by Laurie Lee.
Books: Bukowski, Camus, Heller, Hunter S Thompson, Orwell, Hitchens, Huxley, Hemingway, loads more

Music: All music except Country and Western to some extent, if you count Neil Young and Jonny Cash and the like as Country and Western, that doesn't count. Condor Witty counts.
Last physical album I bought was World Music by Goat, last year.

Film: Too big a topic. Best films I saw last year, The Selfish Giant, Blue is the Warmest Colour.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I guess the most exciting traveling experience was, as I had mentioned previously, hitchhiking from London to Morocco. We raised money for a charity by sponsorships to travel overland by catching lifts through England, France and Spain. Along the way we met truck drivers, families on holiday, professors, two gangsters, train drivers and other hitchhikers. Although sometimes it was tough, it was unforgettable throughout.

Teach, Learn, Share

Teach: a magic trick with a 50 pence piece. Best bars, clubs, pubs, venues, galleries, museums, walks in and around Manchester. The cheapest ways to travel round England and the UK. Basic DIY. Several card games. Help to understand the British sense of humour.
Learn: Always learning, much more needed. Especially I.T based knowledge.
Share: Sharing's caring.
