About Me

After a 30 year career teaching French, and raising four wonderful children, I am taking a little more time for myself, and travelling is my greatest pleasure.
I do a little language private tuition.
I love the area I live in, and have plenty of time to show guests some of my favourite places.
I tend to spend much of my time with people much younger than me, and I don't really feel any different than I did thirty years ago.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

The best way to discover an town, region or countryis to get to know someone who lives there, and couch-surfing offers this possibility.
I enjoy meeting people from different countries. I have stayed in luxurious hotels, which just bore me, as people go there to avoid speaking to others, and much prefer cheap hostels, where people are much more out-going.
There is an Irish expression "A stranger is a friend you haven't met yet", and that's my philosophy.

Interests

I love travel, of course, both within Europe and beyond. Morocco and Vietnam are perhaps favourites.
I share a good sense of humour with many English people. I have recently done a course in "Stand-Up comedy" and am trying to build up the courage to try to do standup in France (in French)
I enjoy sharing food with friends. Cooking food from different parts of the world is my way to relax.

Music, Movies, and Books

I have wide-ranging tastes in all areas.

Music: anything from funky latin jazz to 80s high energy disco.

Films (that's English for Movies): from Toy Story 3 to Tarentino.

Books: both fact and fiction. My favourite book is usually the one I've just finished.

I have enjoyed some great series recently: Braking Bad, the Killing, Fargo and True Detective have made the winter months fly by!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Naked Bungee-jumping from a Hot Air balloon with Sharks at the North Pole.

Are you impressed?

(By the way, I'm also a compulsive liar!)

Teach, Learn, Share

Having spent thirty years "Teaching" I'm more interested now in learning.
I think that the key to a satisfactory life is "curiosity". There is a tendency to see the world as a "Global Village" - "We're all the same really". I don't think this is true, and am very happy that people are different throughout the world. The important thing is to try to get some idea of how we are different, and why.
This is why travel is such a vital and rewarding part of my life.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I enjoy a good chat, and I have a few stories to tell.
I love to cook, and am happy to do so if my host is prepared to let me loose in the kitchen.
I enjoy magic, and am happy to perform a few tricks for anyone. (Although I won't make your stuff disappear!)
