About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Smile, one day at a time.

ABOUT ME

We are a couple in our early thirties who love traveling, the outdoors (mountains yey!) and any activity that makes us feel alive and part of this world. We are easy going, smiley, respectful, relaxed and strive to be in a peaceful relationship with ourselves, each other and the world.

We are both very different individuals that constantly challenge each other, and that's how we like it. :) We have been together for almost 12 years.

We don't care about amassing money, consider ourselves lefty-pragmatists (whatever that means), and both have a very logical mind. We love the world although we are definitely aware about how screwed up it is.

We are Polish by birth, Canadian by citizenship, Quebeckers by culture, and Montrealers by lifestyle.

PHILOSOPHY

Peace and love... and laugh a lot!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

We have been surfing so far, but can't wait to host when we come back to Montréal! We are pretty new to CS but man-oh-man does this concept fit our lifestyle and beliefs, as travelling should be about sharing and experiencing rather than being a tourist! The concept is great, exactly the kind of community that appeals to us, and we can't wait to reciprocate!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

We stayed on 3 different couches in Hong Kong (Kowloon and HK Island), and also in Kunming, China, in Fall 2012.

Interests

This list is by no means exhaustive, but it gives you a pretty good idea of what we like.

We both enjoy: traveling (obviously!), photography, hiking, camping, snowshoeing, volleyball, watching movies that make you think, eating (and learning how to cook) good food, good wine, chilling with friends, discussing politics, international development.

On top of that, in no particular order:

Jan enjoys: history, hockey, soccer, animals (especially dogs, then cats), stupid movies, video games (although I don't play much anymore), going to the gym (although I seem to prefer chilling!), laughing at life, beer, reading, and any kind of cheese!

Marge enjoys: jogging, pilates/fitness, making pizza, reading fiction, organic stuff, helping others in any way possible, playing guitar (although Jan wishes she played more often!), sewing, etc.

Music, Movies, and Books

Jan's favorite book: 1984
Also love: Asimov books, The Hunger Games (couldn't put them down), historical fiction, dystopian future, history books, and many more!

Marge doesn't like to have a favorite book. :)

Movies we both enjoyed and can think of right now: Lord of the Rings Trilogy (know it by heart!), Fight Club, American History X, Seven, The Beach, 21 grams, Shawshank Redemption, Half Baked, most Clint Eastwood-directed movies... I'll stop here but you get the idea.

Very hard to talk about music as tastes evolve and new artists take the place of others... But: not country music, not dance, not really pop (although some songs and artists are great), not cheap trance. Right now we enjoy Arcade Fire a lot. Jan is crazy about psytrance/goa, especially the old stuff by Infected Mushroom, almost all by Simon Posford (Shpongle). We both love Eminem, but not really hip hop. Classical music is great, but we can never remember which composers we like. Marge likes the sound of acoustic guitar, and Jan enjoys electric violin (with beats). As teenagers we really enjoyed industrial rock (NIN), alternative rock (Cranberries, Smashing Pumpkins, etc) so we still like those. Pink Floyd, The Doors, Queen are always great. Since our trip to Africa we really enjoy reggae (Tiken Jah, Bob Marley), and others such as Salif Keita. Of course there are more but can't think of them right now.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Not really crazy stuff, but:
-Skydiving
-Sleeping at 5100m of altitude in the Uyuni Salar
-Sleeping under the stars in the Sahel
-Getting lost hiking without a guide on Mount Etna volcano

Teach, Learn, Share

If we can learn some cooking in your company, that is awesome, because we really want to get better at it! If you can tell us something we don't know about your country/the world, that is also awesome. A couple of words in your language, also great.

When surfing, we really enjoy you can show us something in your city (a place, a café, a restaurant that we would not have had the chance to see/experience). If you're the outdoorsy type, please bring us on a hike! We love exploring places!
