About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Discover and appreciate the awesomeness that is this world, and help to improve it in any way I can.

ABOUT ME
I intended to be an astronaut, but having great grades and a wicked interest in science couldn't overcome that I needed glasses, and way back in the 90s this was actually problematic.

So I swerved and studied the next closest thing: theatrical design.
Really, it made sense. Theatre combines art and engineering into one crazy fun heap of poverty.

So my current work is theatre scenic and lighting design, most of my income derives from freelancing as a stagehand, and I work the rest of the daylight hours on the organic farm (transitioning to permaculture) where I live to offset rent and earn delicious food.

The aim is to be a decent renaissance woman who makes the world better incrementally. Anything that needs building or fixing, let me at it. I play violin/fiddle and piano, dance my heart out at every opportunity, can cook healthy yumminess and sew elaborate garments, but I spend most of my free hours climbing rocks, because the moving meditation with the earth is a great inspiration.

In 2012 my then-husband and I quit our jobs, put the finishing touches on our 6-year house remodel, sold it for a tidy profit, and travelled the world for 2 crazy years. We learned a lot, but we also grew apart.

The newest adventure is in Vermont, chosen for its mountains and its people. I now live on a 147 acre, organic farm and would love to continue meeting couchsurfers and repay the hospitality shown to us.

PHILOSOPHY

Experiences, journeys and relationships are more important than money and security.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

There is no better way to experience a place than through the eyes of a local. The insights they offer into culture, food, how to get around and what to experience are utterly priceless. And this beautiful community has introduced me to some of the world's most friendly, generous, hilarious, and spirited of people.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have couch surfed in the USA, Singapore, New Zealand and Australia and look forward to many more as I slowly make my way around the world.
Now that I have paused in my travels, and benefitted so much from all of your hospitality, I look forward to hosting many travelers in this new Vermont home.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCES

-Raucous Pictionary with a gang of Indian pilots in Singapore, and then introducing them to tacos.
-A slightly drunken barbecue with a herd of nurses and jazz musicians in Tasmania.
-Clearing rodent traps along the shores of New Zealand.

Everyone I have stayed with has transformed their city into a magical place.

Music, Movies, and Books

Anything that warps your mind for the better.

Some Books:
A Primate's Memoir
A short History of Nearly Everything

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I try to add to this list daily, so it's extensive, but the favorite is buying and sharing a beer with YoYo Ma (he likes Miller Lite).

I've also witnessed some wicked Aurora Borealis (the kind that keeps you up all night in the bitter cold), halibut-fished amidst a pod of humpback whales, and mushed a dog sled team on the Iditarod trail. For real.

Teach, Learn, Share

Can share: Construction, painting, tile-work, design, farming, yoga, music, great conversation.
Would love to learn: Anything that you know, especially surfing, music, horseback riding, green living.

Countries I’ve Visited

Australia, Cambodia, Canada, China, Czech Republic, Germany, Italy, Laos, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Viet Nam

Countries I’ve Lived In
