About Me

I´m Javier Alejandro(libra), but you can call me Alex or Javier.
I´m a second-year resident physician in the medical specialty of Traumatology and Orthopedics in Morelia, Michoacan, Mexico. Yes, anything that involves bones, cement, saws, hammers and blows in the operating room, I love it.
I´m originally from Santiago Ixcuintla, Nayarit, Mexico, a small coastal town in the middle of the Mexican Pacific, very hot, humid and rustic.
I'm an introverted person most of the time (but extroverted when I am comfortable), I enjoy time at home, watching movies, going to the cinema, going out to brunch or dinner, going to a cafe or a bar to have a drink and chat.
I love to travel. Even though I don't have much free time because of my medical residency, every time I get a couple of weeks off from the hospital, I like to go on trips, mostly short trips because of my work routine.
My friends describe me as someone opened-mind, reliable, respectful, calm, adaptable, optimistic, decisive, fun.
I enjoy experimenting and trying new things, I'm not afraid of getting lost (as long as I find the right path at the end of the day), I like spontaneity, but I also like organization and planning (the best of both worlds), I'm a foodie, I enjoy eating, going to restaurants or food places with the best recommendations from locals, I like walking and getting lost in the streets, I enjoy museums, outdoor activities, I love going to viewpoints or places where I can admire the skylines of cities, I really enjoy big cities, with movement and noise, with lots of people and tall buildings. Coming from a small-medium city, I really enjoy visiting big cities.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I have always loved traveling and meeting new people from other cultures and countries. I enjoy talking, sharing a meal, and creating new memories.
I discovered my love for new cultures when, during medical school, I helped coordinate my school's IFMSA international exchange program, where I helped fellow students from my faculty complete clinical rotations in foreign hospitals around the world, as well as helping to welcome international students to come and rotate in hospitals in Mexico.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: Pop in English and Spanish, ballads, regional Mexican, songs and soundtracks from movies and series. A little bit of everything.
Books: I must admit that I haven't read for pleasure for a long time, medical school and medical residency absorbed all my reading. I generally enjoy novels, thrillers, dramas and romances.
Movies: I love movies, I love movie nights at home with food. I watch everything: comedy, horror, thriller, drama, romance.
Drinks: Sugar-free coke, wine, beer, tequila, mezcal. I enjoy trying new drinks.
Favorite food: Italian food, Japanese food, Chinese food, wings and boneless, desserts, Mexican food, but in general, I eat a little bit of everything.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Being accepted into the Medical Residency in Traumatology and Orthopedics. I have been able to reduce fractures and dislocations, as well as perform osteosynthesis in surgeries on fractured bones. What's cooler about that?
Spending New Year's in Cuzco, Peru and Hong Kong.
Doing clinical rotations in hospitals in Lima, Peru and Recife, Brazil.
I went to Japan as a cultural exchange being a good faith ambassador of Mexico. I received the title of "Honorary Citizen in the City of Utsunomiya" in the Tochigi Prefecture.
My first pride was in San Francisco in 2017.
Attending conferences in Quito, Ecuador and Taipei, Taiwan.
When I was in Taiwan, I experienced my first earthquake during a typhoon alert, then there was a tsunami alert. I had to shorten my stay.
I enjoy traveling with my mom. She is my best travel companion. We have been to Japan, San Francisco and Chicago together.
I have more things to tell you, but it's hard to list them. How about I tell you about them in person?
