À propos de moi

OK FOLKS, READ THIS:

If you don't have a sleeping bag or a sheet, or linen, and your own towel, don't bother writing to me.

I you do have these items and do not mention it when you write to me, you will most likely get a no ...

The reason for this requirement is that I do not find it environmentally responsible to wash linen after somebody has slept in it one or two nights (and because I am rather lazy, to be honest)!

Pourquoi je suis sur Couchsurfing

I remember many years ago, in the 80's, late in the afternoon on a snowy November day, I arrived to Prince George, BC (I had hitched a ride from Prince Rupert, and I had my bike with me) and I had no place to stay.

I ended up sleeping at the bottom of a steep staircase leading to some basement, while it kept snowing outside.

Luckily, I had a good sleeping bag that could even have kept me warm down to 20 below (20 below Farenheit and -20 degrees centigrade are the same, aren't we lucky)!

It is a dear memory, and had CS existed at that time, I probably would not have it, because I might have found a more hospitable place to sleep...

I thought it would be nice to help people lower their travel expenses, and maybe one day, mine!

Centres d'intérêt

I have learned from life that a lot of the ways society functions is full of ignorance, especially when it comes to the three topics I mentioned above ( sexuality, the economic system and religion); and not least, the way we raise children.

And don't be fooled, I am ALSO a programming nerd, right now in the middle of refining a mobile app that shows rise, transit, and set times for the Sun, the Moon, and the Planets!

Morceaux de musique, films et livres

All sorts of music from many different cultures.

Criminal novels (in French, English and Danish), books on math and science.

I see a lot of movies--as many as possible-- some of which help me follow the Zeitgeist.

Une aventure extraordinaire que j'ai vécue

The two greatest experiences I know of are a full eclipse of the sun (I saw my 4th in Casper Wyoming in August 2017!) and birthing a child (I "delivered" both my children).

On the crazy-don't-ask-me-why side, I have walked barefoot from the top of the Pariou Crater to the parking lot. You have to have hiked on volcanic "soil" to really understand what a (foolish and pointless, I'll be there first to admit) feat that was! The Pariou Crater is in the Massif Central in France, with a view to the more known Puy de Dome...

Enseignez, apprenez, partagez

Conveying knowledge, some call it teaching (learning something from the one side, digesting it, and giving it back out on the other side) is what I am best at.

I have taught language (French and English), Salsa, Origami, Computer programs such as Photoshop and flash, and I do couple therapy with one of my girlfriends.

Ce que j'aimerais partager avec mes hôtes

I am writing this in August 2022, that is after the corona crisis, during which and a little longer I have been off CS, among others since the end of the first covid wave because I did not want to pay even a modest fee to host people!

(That explains that my answering record fell down quite a bit: I used to answer all requests, and now by mid October, it's up again to over 90%.)

Well, maybe it is nice anyway to have guests, so I forked the yearly fee after all...

I want to add some new news to this already LONG section.

Since my last visitors were here, a lot has changed here.

For one, I have pretty much transformed the apartment into a workshop, among others because I learned to weld, and this fantastic skill has inspired me a lot.

It does not mean that it will be uncomfortable for you to be here, since, as I believe you will read below, the bed is still an option unless you prefer to sleep on the floor.

Well, read on...

For the most part a--rather modest--place to stay.

Be warned, though: no coffee (masses of herbal tea, on the other hand), no tv, no microwave, no 24/7 internet, actually, no internet at all!

You must have a sleeping bag or a sheet and a towel, because I consider it as environmentally nonsensical to have to wash linen after so little use...

I'd rather have visitors for no more than 2 nights, and I prefer not to have people over on Thursdays night, although this one is less and less relevant...

The more requests I get, the more I realize that I have to make some things clear:

I am NOT somebody who is going to tell you so much about Denmark and/or Copenhagen or take you around town (I would not want my rather negative opinions about Denmark to spoil your visit!)

And please, Copenhagen is NOT the most beautiful city in the world, and Denmark IS barely more than a puny little prejudiced country that has been a rather rabid warring nation for a few decades now...

I sometimes have had an impression that people have tried to flatter me to get to stay at my place.

I can understand that it might be rather difficult to find hosts here, and yet, it does not make sense (for me anyway) to try at any cost with flattery.

Yes, I can be a rather interesting person to talk to because I have very unusual ideas, for the most part gathered from experience. It does not mean that you have to write to me that it would be SOOOO exciting to stay at my place because of it. Some have tried, and it ended up in disaster!

People I accept as guests are NOT expected to have to talk with me if they are here only to see the city or whatever!

Below is a list of the countries I visited.

I also visited THE WAVE (one of the very few reasons to be thankful for microsoft), it would deserve to be mentioned on that list +;)

--------------------------------------------
Somebody who stated here in May 2018 wrote something in his request that made me realized that I had to change my profile (thank you, Joël). I used to mention a couple of times that I have rather unusual ideas about some topics, and Joël wondered whether it sounded a little bit like the ranting of a bitter old man (that is how I deliberately translated Joël's original French " Ça sent un peu la grande gueule de sexagénaire ").

So here you have it--and this section is not required reading, just information about how a person sees the world, the weird guy (though very friendly and not dangerous) who might end up being your host:

I live my life a little bit outside the "standard" culture.

I have some rather unusual views on major topics, such as sexuality, the economic system, religion, and the way children are being "raised".

I am in the process of developing a website that will therefore be called SERG, for Sexuality, Economy (the Economic system), Religion, and Generations (relations between the generations).

The idea is very simple (don't confuse it with simplistic, though), and it rests on the three following assertions:

1. If we are to survive, and with us the other inhabitants of the Earth, all religions must disappear. If you find the idea a bit too much, you may begin with trying to answer this simple question: what is the difference between religion and spirituality?

The answers I have gotten to this simple question have ranged from "They are pretty much the same!" to "It's complicated!"

I do have a very simple answer to the question, which I only discuss live.

You might also consider that in 2012, the Dalai Lama himself, the big boss of the least murderous religion, has written a book called "Beyond Religion", where he clearly states his personal opinion that religions have run their course...

2. If we are to survive, and with us the other inhabitants of the Earth, the economic system has to be at least revised to remove from it the aspects that make no sense, among others at least the following:
* The economic system violates the basic law of thermodynamics saying that energy cannot be created out of nothing;
* The economic system is among others based on the idea of the "hidden hand of the market" that is supposed to take care of everything and is used as a justification by the people who fight government regulations. The hidden hand of the market is no more than an undocumented fable in line with the virgin birth and other tales of christianity, although economy calls itself a science!
* The economic system is among others based on the idea that people are basically selfish and don't care what happens to others as long as they are fine (Couch Surfing fly in the face of this ludicrous assertion);
* and so on...

I recently learned that Karl Marx coined the expression "Mute Compulsion", a very important concept...

3. If we are to survive, and with us the other inhabitants of the Earth, we must revise the way we live sexuality, and here, it is equally simple, though requiring a better understand of knowledge that goes against the grain of our culture (no wonder, since it serves the interests of the dominant social group, namely men...):

* the sexual pleasure a man experiences comes from orgasms, not ejaculations;
* ejaculations are primarily designed for procreation, they cost energy and they bring NO pleasure at all (see line above!)
* it is possible for a man to learn to separate those two entities who most people believe are one and the same, and choose to have the one--orgasms--for pleasure, and leave the other one--ejaculations--aside, unless the goal of a sexual encounter IS procreation.

See, that is all very simple.

I have already written the part of the website about sexuality. It is in English, French, and Danish. You can see it at www.salsaogsubstans.dk/sustainablesexuality.

Recently, I became interested in music theory.

If you are too, and you know about the circle of fifths, you might want to check out this video I made: "The Intimate Linear Anatomy of the Circle of Fifths" on youtube...

There you go...

Absolute latest news, October 17, 2022: I just hosted the 57 th guest, and I was shocked to hear that it has been soooo bad to stay here that she had to find another place... That is a 2% failure rate!
