Overview
About Me
CURRENT MISSION
To live passionately, laugh a lot, and create positive change in myself and in the world.
ABOUT ME
I'm a sociology professor and study everything from protest music to race relations. I'm also an activist for progressive, social change - supporting various causes. Music has always been a thread running through my life. I was the co-founder and lead singer in a NYC all-girl rock band called the Maul Girls. Now I organize the regional, Wiregrass Blues Fest in Dothan, AL. And in my free time - love to travel!
PHILOSOPHY
We all have to seek our individual truth but I think it's cool that our journeys are so interconnected. I believe in the adage that you can do whatever you like - just so long as it doesn't hurt other living things (i.e., people, animals, or this amazing, beautiful earth). I am a vegetarian - but not militant about it.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I need to surf a bit right now but I also hope to get involved more with hosting.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I am just getting officially started on couchsurfing.com but have hosted a whole rock band from NYC a few times when they come down south for tours. They convinced me of the wonders of Couchsurfing.com I'm in the process of getting them to write references. :-) I actually have couch surfed for years and also have hosted many friends when I lived in NYC.
Interests
When I have free time, I love to travel, hike, go hear music, go to museums/national parks, and watch a lot of documentaries. But I also donate free time and activist energy to various groups. I love reading - mostly non-fiction 'cause of my job and I like to cook.

Music, Movies, and Books
Like a lot of movies, most genres of music, and books. Check out this funny music video of my Maul Girls days when I was in my twenties:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sG_ERqK_5sc. You can also check out this interview I did on the Wiregrass Blues Fest:http://arts.alabama.gov/actc/1/listserverindividual/20140608wiregrassbluesfest.aspx
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I have created the largest U.S. anti-war music database as part of my protest music research. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tCQZLZ3u2to
Teach, Learn, Share
I like cooking - some yummy vegetarian dishes like raw tacos (sounds gross - but actually yummy - made with mostly walnuts and cashews), puttanesca sauce, and delicious homemade dessert sauces if sundaes are your thing. I also love Chia seed pudding.
