About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Meeting new people, learning new things, being useful to those around me

ABOUT ME

Hi, I currently live in Indiana, near the Ohio border. Please don't hold Indiana against me! Many of us are appalled and writing letters like mad to our elected representatives about the appallingly misnamed "RFRA". I love to travel, learn new things, meet new people. I love indie film, reading, cycling, travel, music.

PHILOSOPHY

Life is short, learn something new every day. I am a hospice nurse, I work with the terminally ill. Love the people in your life while you have them, nothing lasts forever, so don't take it for granted. And don't let the labels society slaps on people keep you from discovering amazing people and places. If I am always comfortable, I am probably not learning anything.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Just starting out.....I initially joined for a trip I was taking with my daughter after her exchange year in Germany. Joined but never actually used. And (surprise!) no one has been beating down my door to come to Richmond, Indiana.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
None, as of yet!

Interests

I think I discussed this above. I cannot think of any place in the world I would not like to go. Gotta figure out how to support my travel habit! In my copious free time (ha!) am a storyteller and writer, meditate, stay involved with my local Quaker meeting, keep up on current events. I am currently learning how to make lamps. Dabbled in improv and theater, puppet making, world cuisine....I just really, really hate being bored....always learning something new and taking suggestions.

Music, Movies, and Books

Blues, oldies, jazz, too many to mention, really. Movies and TV? Life of Pi, The Infidel, Buffy the Vampire Slayer (TV, not movie), Downton Abbey, Black Adder, Fawlty Towers, 30 Rock, Big Bang Theory, Jon Stewart, Black Books...
Books? Lord of the Rings, The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, Buddhist Philosophy, Jane Austen, Life of Pi....,kite Runner, Autobiography of a Yogi, Healing into Life and Death....

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have no idea how to answer this question. Either everything is a miracle or nothing is. I remember being on a beach in Nicaragua, no light pollution, the stars thick overhead. Under the sand were thousands of glowing insects. In the Midwestern United States we have insects we call 'lightening bugs' because they light up to find a mate. These were lightening bugs under the sand. There were stars in the sky, stars under the sand, and the waves making the music for the night. It was magical. And the turtles came to lay their eggs.
I loved skydiving, the one time I got to do it.

Teach, Learn, Share

People from whom I can learn something. People who can carry on a great conversation. People with a sense of humor, a sense of adventure. What do you want to know? What do you have to teach?

What I Can Share with Hosts

Hmmm....well, you tell me.... If you come to the exciting metropolis of Richmond, Indiana....oh,hell, who am I kidding? But I would certainly give it my best shot. Um, we have to put 'No horse drawn buggy' signs on our bike trails. (Really- a red circle and a slash over the buggy pic) See anything interesting? I feel like I am just repeating myself. I am Quaker, a nurse, work in hospice, have been a clown, youth leader, associate pastor, a storyteller, a writer, a mother, and now a grandma. I am curious and love to learn new things, which means I listen a lot. Doesn't sound too exciting, but I learn more that way. If I listen to someone long enough and ask the right questions, I can usually find something in common to talk about.
