ABOUT ME

I am a professional communicator -- a writer and editor, working in the renewable energy industry. I also own and operate a small press, publishing books by emerging writers. I live in a beautiful little college town that is off the beaten path, yet has many charming aspects all its own. It's a remarkable, remote little town in a rural county in Ohio, through which many notable people have passed and continue to pass.

I just joined. Plan to host and make use of others' couches when traveling.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

My formal couch-surfing experience is limited -- I just signed up. Informally, I spent years hitch-hiking across the U.S. when I was younger, and spent many a night on a couch (or a floor). I also hitch-hiked through Ireland more recently, and found the experience of meeting new people on the fly to be richly rewarding.

Interests

I love to cook, like good wine, enjoy craft beers. I'm a devoted reader. I am an assistant coach for a college baseball team, and enjoy taking long winter hikes. In warm weather, I particularly enjoy hiking cities -- exploring a great city end-to-end on foot is invariably a memorable adventure.

I enjoy reading non-fiction and fiction, and like reciting poetry.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I survived a storm off the east coast of Australia in a tiny boat, convinced I wouldn't, but determined to make it back to land and tell the story. Determination won (that time).

Teach, Learn, Share

I took a class years ago on Interpretive Reading -- that is, reading aloud as performance. I like doing this and teaching others how. I also like sharing insights about writing and getting published.
