When I heard of couchsurfing I instantly loved it and thought it was the perfect way for me to travel cheaply, but more importantly, authentically. I'm originally from the United States but am currently working in a hostel in the Netherlands. For the next few years I want to travel abroad so I can travel and see/learn as much as possible. Staying with someone that lives and breaths a culture different from my own allows me to experience the "real thing." That's the experience I want. I plan to become a History teacher when I return to the United States in a few years. I believe that through my experiences on couchsurfing, hearing real peoples stories/perspectives on things will better enable me to develop an authentic idea of each place I visit. I think this is incredibly important to my career as I hope to one day share what I have learned in my travels with my students in the United States whom may never get the chance.
