Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm new to the site but I would love to travel, and to host as soon as I have a place I can offer.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Great! I've only surfed at one person's place, but it was lovely and she was really charming and friendly and generous to me.

Interests

I am really "out" when it comes to my identity and my politics. I do some political work and a lot of learning around race, gender, queer stuff, anti-oppression, that kind of thing. As a fat queer woman of color, I don't have the privilege to be detached from my politics, so my "interests" are really just my life. I am also interested in some nerdy stuff like sci-fi, and i used to play college quidditch (i even went to the world cup a few times!) Oh and also I love cooking! I am diabetic and used to be a vegetarian and i'm friends with vegans so i'm also super versatile in the kitchen.

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm not so big on movies, I actually like TV a lot more. A couple shows I enjoy (with a healthy dose of criticism) are: Doctor Who, Buffy, the X Files, Parks and Rec, and Red Dwarf.

I like a whole lot of music, but what I listen to most often is really just the typical stuff of a 20 something tumblr user, haha. I'm just hip enough to not be that hip.

I am horrible at giving myself the time and mental space to read. I am so interested in so many books and authors, but rarely do I reach a point where my mind will give me the time to read for fun. Maybe as I grow as a non-student person, I will gain the concentration. Some authors I have explored and am very interested in are: Samuel Delany, Octavia Butler, Dorothy Allison, and Nalo Hopkinson. I want to start a black speculative fiction book club one day when I learn to read more than a page at a time ;)
