Overview
About Me
I'm open-minded, analytical, calm and relaxed, yet always up to something. I code, climb, work, study. I don't drink, except maybe very mild things, and never smoked. I sing if encouraged, and play Irish folk music and some random other things with a selection of instruments.
Lately I find very drawn into climate activism and my recent travels have been electric road trips. I care a lot about social issues, equality and fairness, and I'm trying to make a difference in politics.
I have two children, 7 and 2 years old, so my home is a playground of sorts.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I love the idea of surfing sofas and meeting interesting people from very different backgrounds. I started surfing in Iceland, and since then I've hosted a few times. Life's been busy now and I live with a roommate and two children, but participating on the site brings flexibility to travels and opportunities to truly meet interesting people. I also hope to host more again some day.
Interests
I am broadly interested in the World we live in, and Us, living on it. I like to read and study geophysics - mountains, volcanoes, glaciers, oceans and the like. Also I'm paying more and more attention to human populations and the traditions, group dynamics, power structures and economical machinery that empower and limit us.
I like board games that simulate these things and teach different kinds of tricks that people may use to "win" in life, as if life had winning conditions. I plan to design board games one day. I especially like board games by Vlaada Chvatil (check him up if you're a gamer!)
Climbing is THE sport for me. It combines wonderful landscapes to a sport that challenges both mentally and physically and isn't a pointless competition. Mountain hiking is a very close second.

Music, Movies, and Books
Authors and educators:
J.R.R. Tolkien and Arthur C. Clarke, whom I grew up with
Richard Feynman and Dalai Lama who inspire me to be a better person
Hans Rosling and Ha-Joon Chang who teach about the societies we live in
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
At the age of 20, I left home to do volunteer work in Nepal, and found myself alone in Kathmandu. It turned out to be a brilliant trip living in a mountain village, getting to know locals and finding out which things are important in life and which aren't.
Teach, Learn, Share
I know a lot about sea ice. I work in a scientific community and can tell you a lot about the physical world we live in and the climate change we're facing. I'm always hungry to learn more though and find most scientific matters interesting. I can also teach you Irish folk music :)
