About Me

I have been traveling, mainly WOOFing (working on organic farms) since December 2016. I started my journey in Pennsylvania when I sold my home, gave away most of my belongings and got in my car heading south. I am on a spiritual journey letting go of all that has held me back for so long.
I have been a professional chef for the last 30 years. That career allowed me to do a lot of traveling, which I loved. I recently left that career but still love traveling. I also work with people in addiction recovery to show them how eating healthy can make them feel better. The focus is on eating sustainably and organically. I have been documenting my whole WWOOFing experience and have a personal blog that I would love to share.
All photos of farms and people have been cleared to be used by the individuals in them and the farmers as well. https://medium.com/@joescarola
I am now a sailing instructor here on the big island. I'm teach mostly on Hilo Bay. I'd be happy to take you sailng or even teach you how to sail.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I couchsurf because I find joy connecting with people. I started traveling and found how impersonal and lonely motels can be. AirB&B's were ok but the people that couchsurf are cool. You have to be open to do this. I have let go and am now really enjoying listening to people tell their wonderful stories. I love to talk story. I could write a book.

Music, Movies, and Books

My favorite music is 70's rock. I love Led Zepplin, Chicago (some argue they are not rock!), Eagles and Allman Bros. I love documentaries on eating, nutrition, science and environmental concerns. Spiritual and self awareness books are my favorites.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

SKY DIVING AHO!

Teach, Learn, Share

Nutrition.... so much to share
Environmental issues, always looking for other peoples' points of view.
Cooking, it's fun and really easy. Let me show you :)
Sailing- just you and the wind, ocean and sky

What I Can Share with Hosts

My openness about everything. Food and diet theories. We are not all the same and we all need to find our own ways of eating that suits us. My experiences. 60+ years on this planet and a few days off. Haha!

Countries I’ve Visited

India, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Thailand
