I’m a 24 years old Icelander, who just recently moved to the lovely town of Southern France, Menton. For the last three years I've lived and studied in Berlin, but as I’m eager to learn new languages, see new places and get to know new people, I decided to do one exchange year as it would allow me to combine all of those things. I’m studying Social sciences, but in my spare time I’m a passionate hiker, reader and music lover.

I love to travel (as probably the whole couchsurfing-community) and through the years I’ve learned the values of knowing locals and get tips from them. This is the main reason I finally decided to join couchsurfing. I guess it held me back, that I don’t have any couch to offer (as I live in student residence with quite strict rules). However, that was foolish of me, as I have a lot of information to offer on Berlin and Iceland. I’m hoping that couchsurfing will be an opportunity for some cultural exchange, may it be in recipes, stories, traditions, books or music. So if you are interested or have any questions, just hit me up. I’m still exploring the beautiful Côte d’Azure, but if you find yourself in the area, I’m more than welcome to meet up and go for a hike or just a coffee.

My favorite move would be twelve angry men. When I lived in Iceland I used to watch more movies than I do now (probably due to the cold weather), but I’ve never completely lost my passion for good movies. To give you a better image of my taste, I would name directors like Quentin Tarantion, Christopher Nolan, Wes Anderson, Stanley Kubrick, Cohen Brothers and Alfred Hitchcock as my favorites.
There is no way, that I could name only one book, so I’ll make it a bit easier for me and name few of my favorite authors: John Irving, Kurt Vonnegut, Oscar Wilde, Olafur Olafson, Leo Tolstoy. Beside those authors, I would name the Count of Monte Cristo, The Catcher in the Rye, Steppenwolf, The Book Thief and the Universe Versus Alex Woods as the greatest books I’ve read.
Finally, music: Alternative, Classic, Indie, Modern classic, electronic and progressive rock.

As mentioned, I love hiking and just outdoor sport in general. As a native Icelander I’m used to spend a lot of time out in the nature. I’m fascinated by it and as I moved to Berlin, I missed it like a dear friend. Because of that I decided to do a little hike in 2014, from Munich to Venice. The 550 km in three weeks made up the greatest experience I’ve ever had. I wanted to go alone, as I thought it was the feeling of being completely alone, that I missed. However, I was wrong! It had just been nature, that I had missed all along. I got to know some amazing people on the way, who made the trip so special.

There are thousands things I would like to learn! I’m eager to hear everyone’s story, to listen to their music or read their favorite books. I’m open minded and always happy to learn something about someone else’s culture, traditions and home. At the same time I'm more than happy to share the few things I know, may it be information on the weather in Iceland and best time to go or the best restaurants and bars in Berlin. I can tell you the folks tales of Iceland and teach you where to find elves. As I’m very new in South France I can offer you to explore with me the beautiful mountains in the area and surroundings.
