About Me

Hi! My name is Jooyoung. Or if you prefer, you can also call me Paulina, by my spanish name :) I was born and raised in Korea, lived a short time of my life in El Salvador and Myanmar, am currently living in Mexico, have traveled not yet many, but several countries until now, and have all the might to reach out to the rest of the world on some point of my life😻. I’m a newbie diver who recently fell in love with the sea, so divers are more than welcomed.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

To me, couchsurfing is a magic that allows me to 1) step into a life of a local (ones that usually results to be the most energetic and interesting individuals I'll ever encounter), 2) reconfirm the belief that our world is still very nice, and 3) continue traveling.
I started couchsurfing, or better said, I started believing in this system, since the year of 2017 in El Salvador, where I encountered super duper amazing hosts.
I had been quite wary of the idea of "free stay at a local's house" as it seemed too good to be real-I mean, why have I paid for those hyped accommodation fees until now then.
But during my stay alone in El Salvador, I had been bored to death, logged into couchsurfing, and boom! Since then, none of the remaining days of my 6 month stay were ever close to boring. Got to know things that I would never have known from googling or books, made real friendships that would last a lifetime, discovered my love for travel, fell in love with the country...
I realized that an experience and benefits that I can get from couchsurfing is waaaaaaay more than just saving few bucks on accommodation.
After I came back to Korea, I was so eager to give back the things I have received. Living together with my parents for now, I couldn't host somebody yet, but I do use hangout function frequently and am ready to help. And, next year I am finally going to get my own place and I am so excited to be a host myself!!

Teach, Learn, Share

LEARNING I love learning. And until the last day of my life I will continue learning something. Currently, am taking classes related to cooking, vocal training, photography, calligraphy. Language learning has been my long passion. I am currently learning spanish, and am ready to learn the languages (at least some key phrases) of the regions I travel. TEACHING A lot of work experience I have are related to teaching. Since the year of 2013, I have delivered English classes of various types ranging from daily conversation tutoring to TOEFL preparation lectures in institutes or English Debate workshops, and have taught diverging age groups. I also have an experience of finding a non-profit educational institution to provide educational opportunities to underprevileged students. I feel pride in how I recompose each units to build up a curriculum just right for an individual, so that he or she could learn in the most efficient manner. SHARE Whatever it'd be I'd be happy to share what I can with you!
