About Me
Hello, my name is Julian Olavegoya! I am a student at Greenfield Community College in Greenfield, MA. Greenfield is not only where I go to school, it is also the town I call home :D
I am studying Visual Arts and hoping to get my degree within this next academic year, after which time I will transfer to another college for my Bachelors.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Well, I have always been a fan of travelling (I have driven to Canada a couple times with friends and family, stayed in Guatemala for 2 months, and driven as far west as Chicago), but I started this Couch Surfing Account for a specific reason.
I am hoping to surprise my girlfriend in Iowa, who thinks that she will be spending her birthday alone in a new city. She recently moved out there for College and doesn't know many people yet, with the exception of her roommate.
I know that she will be lonely for her birthday, and wouldn't be expecting me to drive the distance to her. The perfect atmosphere for a nice surprise :D If all goes well, I hope to arrive a few days before her birthday.
This is where Couch Surfing will be an invaluable resource. While I know she will be happy to see me, she will have a host of things to do (to say the least), and so I will not be able to be with her for the entirety of my stay in Iowa- not by a long shot. But this will give me time to get to know my host(s) and see the sights in a City that I have never been to :)
Music, Movies, and Books
I love fantasty, sci-fi, and romance novels. I grew up reading The Hobbit, LOTR, Riddle and The Rune, and other fantasy books. Over time, I have made the jump to some sci-fi and some romance (Jane Austen fan here).
I love a lot of music. Country, Rap, Indie, Pop, Rock N Roll, Classical, etc.
A couple favorites are Chopin (classical), Eric Church (country), Cavetown (Pop), ACDC (Rock).
Movies wise, I am a big fan of romance and action. I sometimes dabble in horror.
I love animated movies, as you can guess , as I have always loved the art form. Disney, Pixar, DreamWorks, etc.
Secret of Kells, How To Train Your Dragon, etc.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I did some serious off the path wandering in Guatemala! I wanted to really see the rural areas where the culture was. I met people from different countries who wanted the same thing, and made some really good friends from the UK, Israel, Mexico, and of course, Guatemala. To many globe-trotters, this is not too amazing, but it was amazing to me! I had an unforgettable time :D
Teach, Learn, Share
I love teaching and learning and sharing. If you want to know anything about 3d design and animation, maybe I'm your guy!
I have taught a class on that subject at a learning center for kids before, and it was an true experience.
Not only that, but a couple summers ago, I had a job where I taught kids engineering through Legos. Very simple stuff, but still, also an amazing experience :D
There are many things I still do not know. I love learning though, and so I'm always open to whatever anyone can, or wants to show/teach me!
What I Can Share with Hosts
I can (and fully intend to) help with buying groceries, so I'm not eating you out of house and home. Anyone putting me up in their home deserves that at the least.
Apart from that, I can run errands, help you move/lift heavy things, I can help you practice Spanish, play chess with you, play video games with you, and of course, offer some conversation!
