Hi, I'm Kait!

I'm from Athens, Georgia (the state, not the country ;P ). I lived in Chicago for a few years and before that, I spent a year as an au pair in Bavaria, Germany from 2016-2017. That's where I really started to become obsessed with travel, especially solo trips. I think it's the best way to meet people. I am constantly curious about other cultures, languages, and ways of thought. All of those areas of interest manifest themselves through visiting new places, so I guess it is not a surprise I love travel so much.

I seem to go through fixations every few months with a new area of the world I want to visit. Recently, I'm excited about the United State's national parks! If you have any tips or recommendations based off of your favorite park visits, I'm all ears. :)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I am on Couchsurfing because traveling is a passion of mine, as is meeting new people! I would much rather spend time getting to know a local resident of the place I'm visiting than stay in some fancy hotel, visit only the tourist attractions, and never interact with anything or anyone authentic to that place. I am of the Cloud Atlas mind that if you travel far enough, you meet yourself. I take that to mean - if you really truly explore the places you are visiting - most importantly by getting to know the people in that place - you will not only learn more about other people, but you will in turn, learn more about yourself.

I have a terrible memory, so rather than try to list off my favorite music, movies (nah.. TV Shows), and books of all time, I'll just list my current obsessions:

Music: Maggie Rogers, Sylvan Esso, Her, Arctic Monkeys, Silbermond, Marvin Gaye, Rolling Stones, Russo, ANIMA!, Whethan, Elderbrook, Leyya - And so on... I like a lot of indie rock, electro pop, and random German bands. Occasionally, if I'm feeling homesick, I'll listen to country. I'm not picky.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I am a very open minded person. I didn't used to be, but university, and traveling the world as a part of my experience as an au pair and beyond has made me recognize the beauty in people's differences. I want to share my ideas, and my country with my host, and I hope they will do the same.

I am outgoing and talkative, but I also love to listen! I love to get to know my host and spend time with them whenever possible. However, if you don't have a lot of time, I'm also super cool with just doing my own thing and letting you do yours, but if you do have time, it's always great to grab dinner together or go out for a drink, and explore your home.

Oh, I can also share wine, beer or spirits! Whatever suits your fancy.
