About Me
WE ARE the first recycling organization on the Lanyu island, a gorgeous little island to the south-east off the cost of mainland Taiwan. Since millennia the island was historical motherland for indigenous community of Tao tribe, also known as Yami or Dawu people.
However recently with the rapid increase of tourism along with business opportunities our community started experiencing the alarming side of the globalization - the increasing amount of plastic and wastes polluting our traditional fishing grounds, our beaches and the pristine nature of our island. We are afraid that if there is no actions taken now our future generations will lose the invaluable beauty of our homeland inherited from our ancestors.
With this in mind our founder Awen, an indigenous of Tao tribe and venerable man of our community, decided to take the action and preserve the magnificence of life here.
In 2011 he started recycling of used machine oil, in 2014 ever increasing amount of plastic bottles and in 2017 it resulted in formation of "Kasiboan" what from Dawu language means "the place where rubbish is being assembled".
Now ever since we are running by volunteers with approval of local government and by means of concerned donors; organizing educational activities, events, exhibitions; growing and increasing public awareness to this issue.
OUR GOAL IS to spread Kasiboan movement to other communities, so that by means of common efforts we can save our planet together.
* Kindly be reminded that the best time to visit the Orchid Island is from May to October, since winter there will only be very limited fury service / direct flight to here. Also it is windy and cold in Orchid Island during winter, if you plan to come here in winter/spring , please be fully equipped.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Our organization regularly needs NEW VOLUNTEERS to maintain our center and to participate in our projects. So we use every social media to attract interested people to stay with us for couple of weeks, months. We provide free accommodation and food for every our volunteer.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Also apart from volunteering we want to spread the word about our activity, to make as many people know about Kasiboan as possible, that's why WE INVITE EVERY RESPECTFUL TRAVELER to stay on our CAMPGROUND and to have chance to experience our culture and the beauties of our hospitable island.
However because we need to pay our bills we ask EVERY CAMPER as a sign of your gratitude to leave your DONATIONS to help us to continue.
We do not intend to make profit out of your donations but it's very important to us to be able to provide this hospitality also to the future coming travelers, thus donations are COMPULSORY =)

Teach, Learn, Share
We are a dynamic community of young Taiwanese people with constant rotation of new volunteers. So depending on current project and who is currently participating you may have different opportunities for learning.
Coming to stay with us you will experience the slow life of a tropical island in the Pacific Ocean, learn about the aborigines culture of the local people, practice/learn your Chinese language skill, learn how to work with plastic recycling equipment, build things with your hands, organize/participate in our events, cook food and so on.
