Overview
About Me
I'm a Canadian currently living in Lawrence, Kansas on a work visa. I work as a research assistant in the Ecology and Evolutionary Biology Department at KU. I love my job working in the lab everyday doing genetics, and definitely consider science more of a passion than a job.
Like the stereotypical, overenthusiastic Canadian that I am, the winter is my favourite time of the year. Snowboarding is my biggest hobby and no winter is complete without a few days on the hill. After a day on the mountain, nothing better than a beer and catching a hockey game.
I've been lucky enough to get some traveling under my belt already, living in Japan for 4 months, visiting India for 2 weeks, Sri Lanka, China, Jamaica, Cuba, Mexico, and many other Caribbean places.
The dream is to be able to snowboard all around the world.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Man, hotels can be expensive. I would much rather meet new friends or potential ski buddies and live the more local experience when traveling and I think most people on here have the same idea. If you need a place to crash, my couch welcomes you.

Music, Movies, and Books
I will listen to anything and everything. Raised on rock and country music in a small town, but went to university in a big city and lived the student party lifestyle for a few years. So EDM, rap, country, rock, folk, indie, etc. Any of it is fine by me but some favourite musical acts are the Tragically Hip, Chance the Rapper, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Shania Twain, Logic, Kanye, Trews, Audioslave, Johnny Cash, Tom Petty, Neil Young, Eminem, MGK, Kendrick.
Movies and books fall under the same category for me. I always want to learn something new so give me a biography or documentary and I will watch/read it.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Single day hike of Mt. Fuji in Japan, on the longest path up, during the offseason, with 2 weeks of prep. DO NOT RECOMMEND! It was a helluva a day and one of my best ever but that mountain kicked my ass. Taking a shorter route or making it a two-day hike would have been ideal.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I would consider myself a privately, outgoing person. I love keeping to myself and doing my own thing but can easily find common interests with almost anyone and make friends super easy. I don't have much to share besides my stories, some beers and if you're lucky, maybe some magic tricks.
