About Me

I am a classically trained chef. I came to the US in 1974 to work in my friend's restaurant in Vermont. There I met the woman whom I subsequently married. We raised two girls in Woodstock, VT. We started two businesses. One was a bakery. The other was a restaurant. I had the desire to learn woodworking so I quit the restaurant business and worked with a master craftsman for a few years and then started my own woodworking business. I specialized in hardwood chessboards which I shipped to clients internationally. I also volunteered with a local agency doing carpentry and construction work.
I am mostly retired now and I seek more volunteer opportunities. Since Hurricane Harvey decimated Houston last summer I have been thinking about driving down to contribute my skills toward the rebuilding effort. I drove from Vermont to Houston in early March. I have hooked up with a group named West Street Recovery and I am helping the rebuilding efforts.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

While I am volunteering I am in need of accommodations in the Houston area. I enjoy engaging in conversation and cultural exchanges with people of all ages and backgrounds. I would love to have a network of Couchsurfing hosts with whom I could stay during my time in Houston. I believe we can all learn from each other's experiences.

I have been a Workaway host so I am familiar with the sharing community. Please go here to learn a bit more about me and my life in Vermont. https://www.workaway.info/742612226514-en.html.
