About Me

I grew up rather sheltered in one of the southern states in the US. Over the past few years, I've had moments of both "triumph and disaster" ("If", by Rudyard Kipling is one of my absolute favorite poems!) that really opened my eyes to walks of life I didn't know existed. I always wanted to travel to see the world, but now I would say I want to travel to know the world. I enjoy deep conversations, challenging my perspectives, and I feel strongly about always being a voice for the voiceless. Situations that involve rallying for justice, and defending the oppressed inspire me. I have a special place in my heart for homeless people and those living in poverty, whether it be generational or situational. The kindness of a stranger is something I didn't *truly* learn until my 30's, but it's now what I long for - in myself, in others, in our world. There are few things as valuable as a person's kindness that has no obligation to be kind.

I enjoy exploring, yoga, trying new things, helping people, reading, music, conversing on a soul level and of course, traveling. I have an entrepreneur spirit and have always had some form of my own business going since I was a teenager. I suppose I'm a bit of an adrenaline junky :)

I don't really watch TV, movies included. I do, however, enjoy inspirational pieces on youtube, such as TED talks. Some of the speakers I've really enjoyed lately have been Lisa Nichols, Esther Perel and I've probably listened to "The Art of Communication" by Thich Nhat Hanh over a dozen times this month :)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Like I mentioned, I grew up with a lot of narrow mindedness and I've always felt like an outcast for my outlook on the world and my desire to connect to it. But that's what brings me here - my desire to connect :)
