About Me

I'm at-times outgoing and gregarious and at-other-times quiet and introspective, but at all times I am imagining, creating and trying to move forward. I once lived in a large cooperative house locally, and it was one of the most formative experiences of my life. I've since moved into a smaller house, and I'm not accepting guests at the moment, but I'm definitely up for giving you pointers on things to check out, especially if you're looking to check out some music. I'm a working musician and show organizer. I do a few freelance event planning and community outreach jobs. Other than that, I'm searching for the right company/ organization to put down full time roots with!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm trying to get to Costa Rica eventually. I love talking to people from that area, and I am currently learning Spanish. I also love to talk to folks from out of town about the fun things to do around here!

Interests

I love putting music shows and events together for the community. I love connecting people and seeing plans set into motion. We live in a tumultuous world, and I love seeing the small beautiful things make people smile, even if just for a moment. I'm pretty good at rising to a challenge, but I enjoy luxury and relaxation when possible. I'm passionate about the menstrual revolution- making the world a more comfortable place for all people with periods, as well as providing/finding safer spaces for women, lgbtq, and people of color to create and be themseves. I really like to nerd out over goal setting and talking to folks about their habits and routines and how they plan their days. I typically listen to at least one podcast a day.

And yes, I also love decompressing with yoga, ambient music, candles, and all of that. I adore my bicycle and riding with or without a destination. I've spent over a year now without a car, and that's given me a lot of adventures, a lot of beautiful interactions with folks I might not otherwise have, but its also brought on it's own unique challenges in a city that's not particularly designed for mass transit.

Music, Movies, and Books

From other places:
Josh Ritter, Neko Case, The Staves, Jenny Lewis, Rilo Kiley, Ryan Adams, Butch Walker, Holly Golightly, Portugal. The Man, Grouplove, My Chemical Romance, Tori Amos, The Decemberists...
From Buffalo: Little Cake, Erica the Ice Dragon, Hooked on CasioPhonics, Jack Topht, Truey V, Twenty Thousand Strongmen, Leafy Trees, Folk Faces, The Gennies, Venus Vacation, Pine Fever, J. Aquarious, Green Schwinn, Leyda, Hop Hop, Curtis Lovell, Tina Panic Noise...and there are oh so many others.

Some favorite recent books have been 'Sex at Dawn' by Christopher Ryan and Cacilda Jetha, 'The Authentic Life' by Ezra Bayda, 'The Very Best of Charles De Lint', 'Is Everyone Hanging Out without Me' and 'Why Not Me?' by Mindy Kaling...some old favorites include 'Stardust' and 'Neverwhere' by Neil Gaiman, 'The Catcher in the Rye' by J.D. Salinger, and The Wayfarer Redemption series by Sara Douglass.

Movies...I don't watch many of those. Moulin Rouge and an independent film called 'The Price of Milk' are my favorites of all time, but I also did recently watch 'The Fundamentals of Caring' and I really loved that. Oh, but also, 'Wet Hot American Summer'.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I love facilitating events that foster peoples' creative genius. One time, at an event I organized, a kid got up and read her poetry in front of people for the first time. She had been struggling with depression and self-harm, and I knew it was a pivitol moment for her. That's what I consider a job well done. I also host house shows which create really intimate moments between the bands and the audience, and those are just priceless.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I would love to hear what kind of projects you have going on in your life, and help you set managable goals to accomplish them. I'm not too much of a cook, but would definitely make you a meal. I can also help with small house projects, or help you host a party or event. :-) I can definitely write you a song, too.

Countries I’ve Visited
