About Me

Hi, I'm from Russia. I live in Voronezh, it's a rather big city in the central part of Russia. There is a big water reservoir in the middle of the city, which makes it unique and beautiful. First Russian ships were built here in the 19th century.
I'm 44 and have two daughters (23 and 8). I like travelling and meeting new people. I'm a freelance journalist, teacher and screenwriter.
And I started collecting photos of balconies 2 years ago. Sometimes I even imagine a story for a nice balcony I see. You can see my collection at my Instagram (link below).
I was born in Lvov (Ukraine, though it was Soviet Union at that time) and lived there for 17 years. There are a lot of cities I really like, but Lvov remains my favourite.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

There is a legend of a russian bogatyr (epic hero) called Ilya Murovets, who had been sleeping for 33 years on a countryhouse stove. And all of a sudden he woke up and started acting.
I'm just like him ;). I mean - I love travelling with all my heart, but somehow it happened I've spent most of my life in one place, seeing little. But it changed last summer. My elder daughter pulled me out from my limited reality - and dragged to Father East (Vladivostok, Kamchatka and South Korea). And then I recollected my old dreams))

I think that any kind of travelling is nice - and the ordinary tourism too (booking hotels\hostels, traditional sightseeing, etc), why not? But most of all I like communication and learning something new from interesting people. That's why I find CouchSurfing invaluable. It gives us something bigger, much bigger than just tourism. It gives the opportunity to make our discoveries personal and emotional and human.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: Rock. Imagine Dragons, Red Hot Chily Peppers, Nirvana, Dire Straits. And Russian music - DDT, Viktor Tsoy, Animal Jazz, Noize MC etc.
Films: dramas, clever comedies, thrillers. The favourite films I can recall are "American beauty", "The Babel", "Jeanne d'Arc", "Troy", "Little Miss Sunshine", "Das Leben der Anderen"...
I like good series as well. "Game of thrones", "Stranger things", "Bron/Broen", etc. I value good scripts.
As for books, my heart is devoted to Russian literature (so surprising ;-) since I'm from Russia). My favourite authors are Dostoyevsky, Bulgakov, Solzhenitsin.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Two amazing daughters.
Actually I didn't do anything - they are just amazing by themselves. But I'm proud I was involved)).

Teach, Learn, Share

I can tell about Russia (especially - russian "glubinka", the life outside of Moscow, in distant cities). This year I had a big train journey through the whole Russia, from Moscow to Vladivostok. It was fabulous. I can tell a lot about this experience.
But honestly, most of all I like listening)). I'm very interested in other people's cultures, traditions and points of view.

Countries I’ve Visited

Estonia, Finland, Germany, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Norway, Poland, Russian Federation, South Korea, Sweden, Ukraine

Countries I’ve Lived In
