About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Be there for my children, have fun, save the world

ABOUT ME

I'm a quite calm person, but I like new adventures. A bit absent-minded sometimes. I often enjoy meeting up with friends and sometimes I cherish time on my own. I strive to meet everyone in a friendly and respectful matter, without prejudice and stereotypes (it’s a challange, but I try). I take it as given that our actions need to be rooted in the basic social concept of everyone’s equal value. I am convinced of the notion that things work out better when we cooperate and do them together.

I enjoy being creative, that makes me grow, widens my mind. I treasure all the beautiful things that are around us – nature, the sea, the goodness we are able to share, people in general, of which most are offering to help out if needed.
I think we are all quite similar and are able to connect more easily than we usually might get a picture of. Having travellers from all kinds of background come by here, strengthens that thought.

Born in a wealthy country with a strong social welfare system as a caucasian male, I of course have large benefits compared to many others just because of that. Trying to be aware and learn more about what can favour fairness among people. Planning to study social entrepreneurship to be able to work in projects that create values that benefit society rather than generating profit.
I see the risk in some of the norms limiting freedom and creativity. Trying to be open-minded and ready to change some of my viewpoints when it’s needed, and stand up for them when that is needed.

Biking is my main means of transportation. It’s fun and it gives me some exercise. (Truth is I’m without a drivers licence, otherwise I’d be driving a big fossil fuel car all the time.). I eat plant based. I have a rather loose gender identity, it’s more floating. I practise to let go more and follow my senses on where to go next. I have two children. I like animals and we used to have cats when I grew up.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Hosting travellers, surfing couches, joining groups.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Have now been hosting a fair bit of people since I joined and they have all been good experiences. Some years ago my older child and I went to Berlin for a week and a half and stayed with some really nice and hospitable hosts there. This summer I have met some more very nice hosts. Hoping to surf some couches soon again.

Interests

Drawing and painting has been an interest for as long as I can remember. It’s an activity where I can really loose myself and other thoughts go away.
I have been in different theatre groups and I really enjoy being part of a production and intepret a role or to do improvisations or just different drama exercises.
Love dancing. When I go to concerts it is almost impossible for me to stand still. I started trying to learn Tango, but it’s a bit slow. The learning process that is. The dance is fun. (I just have to take the time to practice more than I do.)
It’s a soothing feeling for me when I get out in nature, whether it is for hiking, picking blueberries, biking or just sitting on a log for a while.

Questions about society and how we organize it catches my attention. I think we can do better than having the economical gap widening and political decisions for the environment haltering. I am troubled by increasing polarization, political representatives presenting simplified solutions, exaggerating certain problems and using a “us and them” rhetoric to gain political influence.
I tend to easily get involved in issues that I believe need more attention, at the moment the jin-jiyan-azadi (woman-life-freedom) movement for peoples rights in Iran, the efforts for peace in Ukraine, lgbtq+ rights, an including educational system, the child perspective in decision-making, the environment.
I’m interested in looking into ways that could make way for an equal society, like universal basic income, feminism, non-profit corporations, NGO’s, children’s rights implementation et cetera.

Travelling, I guess that goes without saying. :) Hitch hiking, biking, train rides.

Health, our body and how we can treat it well. Interested in how we eat affects how we feel. Like to exercise, e.g. jogging or biking, to feel better physically and mentally. Learning about our anatomy. Studied Classical/Swedish massage.

Music, Movies, and Books

There is so much out there when it comes to good cultural expressions like books, music, theatre plays, movies.
Like most others I listen to a lot of different music genres.

The back beat of reggae – Bob Marley and The Wailers, Steel Pulse, Peps Persson…
Rock and alternative – Björk, Pixies, Susanne Vega, Smashing Pumpkins, Atomic Swing, David and The Citizens
Chilling to some Jazz – Nina Simone, Billie Holliday, Chet Baker
World Music, Instrumental, Electronica, Funk, Singer-Songwriter, Heavy Metal and a lot more...
Urga, Tycho, Bakermat, Earth Wind and Fire, Norah Jones, Stina Nordenstam, Brighthaven, Wookiefoot…

At the moment I am reading
The Spirit Level - Why More Equal Societies Almost Always Do Better (Kate Pickett and Richard Wilkinson)
Endurance (Lansing)
A book about anatomy

Theatre plays and Movies – The ones that plant a seed in my thoughts.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Being there when your child is born is something truly amazing.

Teach, Learn, Share

I enjoy sharing experiences to broaden my perspectives. Meeting people is a great way to learn new things and to understand each other and the world better.
Language exchange. I would like to learn more Chinese and to continue to use it by speaking with someone who knows the language. I could teach Swedish or English.
I'm a masseur of Classical/Swedish massage.
