About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Finish graduate school with sanity.

ABOUT ME

I love to travel and talk travel with other people. I also love stories, either telling them or hearing them from other people. I'm spontaneous in a quiet sort of way and absolutely love adventure. If I'm in your country, I would love to meet you. If you are in mine, I'd love to show you around.

PHILOSOPHY

There is a spark of the divine inside everyone. This is the thing that makes each person uniquely themselves. Daily, I choose to brighten my spark or dull it with the decisions I make. Am I becoming more myself, a fully integrated and beautiful person, and progressing toward God or moving away from God and myself? Life is a journey of becoming healthier, more integrated, and more fully God until the day I die, when the journey starts over again. For this reason, every person is worthy of being listened to and spurred on to their own health.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I would like to host surfers in Maryland, stay with people as I travel and meet new people traveling through the East Coast. I'm a recent transplant to this coast and would love to offer suggestions on what I have found. Currently, I am in graduate school and busy studying instead of adventuring.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have little couch surfing experience. I have gone to several couch surfing happy hours in the Seattle area. However, I have not couchsurfed since moving to the East Coast.

Interests

Backpacking, running, hiking, kayaking, mountaineering, rock climbing, biking, reading, music, yoga, finding truth, personal growth, international affairs, cooking, painting, gardening, talking, traveling, adventuring.

Music, Movies, and Books

East of Eden by John Steinbeck, Gilead by Marilynne Robinson, anything written by Annie Dillard, Mountain of Silence, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer, Samsara and Baraka, Amelie, the Beatles, Iron and Wine, 80's British pop.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

In 2010, I watched the birth of my nephew and the death of my uncle. Between these events I got rid of all my possessions to travel through Central America for a year. The trip was cut short by the death of my uncle. I've been a great many locations and seem many amazing things, however in 2010 I saw the bookends of the human experience and it has shaken and changed me irrevocably. The birth and death of two people I care deeply about is the most amazing/enlightening/painful thing I have seen.

Teach, Learn, Share

I am an avid rock climber and mountaineer. I could teach practical rock skills, such as belaying, climbing techniques, and basic mountaineering/backpacking. I also play the flute, book bind, dabble in photography, and read compulsively.

I would love to learn how to play the guitar, cook indian and thai food, and talk with other photographers about tips and techniques.

Countries I’ve Visited
