Hi fellow Surfers, I’m Alvis, 25 years old.

I was born In Taiwan which is a small island in the Pacific ocean, often be mistaken for Thailand. Once you visit my home town, you will be impressed by the most delicious snacks and some of the friendliest people you would meet.

I’m a freelance photographer, an artist and a traveler. I’m a friendly, easy-going guy. I want to broaden my horizon and challenge myself through solo traveling and independent-living in foreign countries, to learn to recognize myself more clearly, and form my self into a complete person with great mental strength.

I have strong connections with arts ever since my childhood. I’ve learned sketches, watercolor and eastern ink painting for about 6 years. Then I went to University and majored in graphic design. Nowadays, I am a photographer and specialize in art portraits. I’m fascinated by photography because I can bring my dreams and the scenes in my mind into reality, and how they may emphasize with people. It satisfies me that photography is a way to help me recognize myself. I believe photography is a part of me.

I may be a bit shy when I meet people for the first time. But I’ll be a great company once we’ve known each other.

Pourquoi je suis sur Couchsurfing

Couchsurfing is a thing that I’ve known for a long time but have never tried before. Recently, when I told my friends I’ve gotten a visa for Australia, my friends shared me a story about how he traveled to Japan and tried to be a couch surfer. Eventually, he found a host in Kyoto, and was treated nicely from the couples, that’s why he highly recommended Couchsurfing to me.

If I ever have the opportunity to meet different people from around the world, share life stories, taking the time and a deep dive Into their local culture, I think it would be a really astonishing experience.

One of my favorite photographer Polina Washington Says- “Photography is always connected with who you are in the moment because I think you’re never the same person as you were yesterday. The more you explore, the more opportunities you get for inspiration and to create something new. It’s not about being locked in a box of one style – it should be about trying to explore everything around you. “ She gave me so much inspiration and courage to try couchsurfing.

Stairway to heaven accompanied me through my tough periods, it comforts me all the time. From my perspective, it’s one of the greatest rock songs of all time.

The last two songs are made by my favorite Taiwan producers. They are really great at using Taiwanese traditional atmosphere sound and sound effects, presenting unique features of my hometown. You can also check it out on Spotify.

I prefer si-fi and unique animation films. Blade runner and Akira present a future which is not only desperate but poignant through cyberpunk and anti-utopia world view. I appreciate the way they reflect the social ills in modern society.

Paprika and Millennium Actress both made by my most admired director- Kon Satoshi. He is particularly good at expressing characters’ emotion and introspection precisely through parallel virtuality and reality.

I love reading photo albums, taking a glimpse of different photographers’ inner world, emotions, culture experiences and visual aesthetics through their works.

Eastern philosophy is one of my favorite domain. The Tao-te Ching presented a way of life intended to restore harmony and tranquillity to a kingdom racked by widespread disorders.
