About Me

Hey there, my pronouns are she/her.

Life has thrown a very peculiar challenge at me (if the whole pandemic situation wasn't enough in itself) - which has stopped me temporarily from travelling (other than COVID-19).

I have been diagnosed, toward the end of 2019, with a recurrence of a very rare type of cancer that I had as a child.

Long story short, it was not an easy walk in the park (and still not the case)- but some periods are better than others!
There are no treatments out there that can cure me from this monster just yet - only treatments to slow down its course.
However, bloody 'Gérard' (its name), won't stop me from enjoying whatever time I have left.

I had been living in the UK for 7 years, and due to my personal circumstances, I decided to come back to my dear France.

Anyway, a little (more) about me:

I am an odd free-spirited soul and an 'outside-the-box' thinker. I love travelling and meeting new people. I am easy-going and also extremely curious, about anything! I am happy to spend time wandering around, observing people or things; when I travel, this is how I like to discover a place and its people - which helps me to feel the raw and real atmosphere of the area in which I am.

I am finishing my criminology degree, currently working on my final dissertation.

I like swimming, hiking, doing yoga and I do photography as a hobby (https://laurarogermikkelsen.wixsite.com/home or @fever_totheform)

I am terrible at meditating, my brain function in both French and English and I often end up saying things that sound silly (which I'm sure a lot of you can relate) - and I have heard that I can be a great cook.

I am a human and non-human rights activist, and a feminist.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

It has been a fantastic experience so far. This is the best way (in my opinion) to meet people from different cultures, backgrounds, to share time and memories and potentially create new friendships!

Music, Movies, and Books

I have been told more than once than my taste is rather eclectic... this might be why I cannot answer properly when I am asked which type of music I listen to, there are too many!

About movies, my knowledge on them is quite limited, but I'm improving!

Too many books to write down here. Currently reading "Les Furtifs" from Alain Damasio.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach French and English.

I know some of the most delicious french recipes (thanks to my French roots) - overall I am quite creative when I cook and I can pretty much do anything. Though, I have been vegan for a little while now, therefore my knowledge/interests tend to be plant based.

I bet I can make you laugh. Mostly, just because I'll mispronounce something or because my facial expression has a mind of its own - or potentially because I have many personal stories that deserve their own comedy special on Netflix.
