Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
A lot of my work surrounds social connectivity: how is it, in a world populated with billions of people, we feel increasingly isolated and disconnected from one another? And how can we use the mechanisms of our modern society to engage, enlighten, and inspire one another?
The internet, to me, is one of the greatest tools we have in making this a possibility, and I love inspiring and connecting people through art.
Allowing a stranger into your home takes a huge amount of trust, as does being a guest in the home of someone you know nothing about. I think the portrait series will bring light to current notions surrounding sociability, privacy, and trust. How open are we to strangers in public settings vs. our homes, where we allow ourselves to "remove the mask"

Music, Movies, and Books
"All that I know about my life, it seems, I have learned in books." --Sartre
One of the best things about books is that it's like having a conversation with a really amazing person. I really enjoy reading sci-fi, philosophical/psychological theories, and anything that stretches and pulls the imagination.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
One time I ribbon danced through costco dressed as a wizard. They kicked me out because people thought I was on drugs. I've done a few other "performance" art projects that were really fun.
One of my favorite memories is from a summer night driving alone in the country; I got out of my car to stand in a wide, open field that was glistening with hundreds of fireflies. I often revisit the moment in my mind.
Teach, Learn, Share
I like inspiring others to see beyond their preconceived "horizons". As our world continues to become more globalized, one of the most important things we can do is aim to broaden our "scope": if you only spend time around people who think the same thoughts as you, enjoy the same hobbies as you, share the same opinions as you, etc. you will only see a very limited view of what is around you and/or within you. By being more open to others, we're allowing each other to flourish as individuals and as a community.
