About Me

ABOUT ME

I'm very laid back and tend to go with the flow, but I'm always down to seek out an adventure.

PHILOSOPHY

My parents are nudists, and I'll never forget the day they told me. My father said "Rachel, life is short. And when you've been dead a hundred years, you've only just begun to be dead." The statement is a bit morbid, but the sentiment struck me profoundly. We have a finite amount of time to live our lives - why waste a second of it on pointless worrying or on doing things we don't truly want to do?

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've had a Couchsurfing profile set up for a couple years now, but I've only just started really getting into the community. Loving it so far!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I hosted my first CSer while I was living in Mozambique with the Peace Corps, but he didn't actually find me through the Couchsurfing site - he found a friend of mine through it, and then the friend sent him my way. A few months ago I started traveling through South America, and I´ve met some great friends through CouchSurfing along the way.

Interests

Travel, or course, but I guess that goes without saying on this site. I love reading, frisbee, and chatting over a great microbrew. (Or a mediocre macroswill. I just really love beer.)

Music, Movies, and Books

Favorite movie is a 4-way tie between Sean of the Dead, Big Lebowski, Die Hard, and Casino Royale. I'm a huge Bond fan, and I actually have the entire James Bond catalog in my travel bag. (Except for Quantum of Solace.. I just can't bring myself to spend money on it.)

And books! Books books books. I devour books of all kinds. Ongoing favorites include The Vintner's Luck, The Drifters, and Del Amor y Otros Demonios.

Music: a little of everything, but of course that's what everyone always says. My favorites tend to be classic rock. Mom has every Beatles album and Dad knows every word to every Queen song, so I grew up with the rock classics. (My first concert was Meatloaf. I was 11 and with my parents. It was totally awesome.)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I'd say it's a tie between the time I summitted Kilimanjaro just before sunrise, and the time a friend convinced me to go to Outback and order a bloomin' onion.

It was beautiful.
