Recently returned to the states after backpacking through Central America with my boyfriend Justin. Started hitchhiking in Honduras. Studied Spanish in Guatemala. Learned to SCUBA in Honduras. Sailed around Costa Rica. Road tripped from Texas to New York and back.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

When you meet people in passing in a new place, you usually don't get to know them as well as you'd like. But when you stay in a hostel or couchsurf you can share meals together and talk a lot more in depth. You can make good friends that way and support each other as a community, even when you are far from home.

The best way to love a city like a local is to live like a local.

Interests

Rock climbing - skill level moderate, was climbing 10b/c, just started lead, and have been sport climbing outdoors a couple times.
Backpacking - most recently in Central America
Camping - usually a car camper but hoping to do more primitive camping in the future
Hiking - my preferred activity, any day of the week
Board games - I like big group games
Cooking - One day I will over dose on cheese
Sailing - I have my ASA basic certification, crewed on a ketch in Costa Rica for 1 month

Teach, Learn, Share

I have been studying Spanish for about a year. I can't always say exactly what is in my head, but I have found lots of fun ways to practice and I hope to improve a little every day.

I also teach English in my spare time. Often my students have only been in the U.S. for a few months. I am always looking for inspiration to bring to the classroom.

Here's my attempt at Spanish:

Hace un año que estudio Español . No siempre puedo decir lo que quiero decir, pero he encontrado muchas formas divertidas de practicar y espero que mejore poca a poco.

Enseño inglés en mi tiempo libre. A menudo los estudiantes hen estado en los Estados Unidos para pocos meses. Siempre estoy busando inspiración para un aula creativa.

What I Can Share with Hosts

If you tell me where to buy the best produce, I can cook up a tasty meal. I like to cook vegetarian but I can accommodate any taste.

Lately some of my favorite dishes to cook have been shepherd's pie, lasagna, fried zucchini, and oatmeal casserole.
