I am a poet, novelist, publisher and researcher. I live at The Ledges in Leverett, Massachusetts. I was born in Framingham, Massachusetts. I have a B.Sc. in English from the State University of New York at New Paltz. I have done graduate work in Creative Writing (SUNY Potsdam), the Philosophy of Art (New School), English Literature (SUNY New Paltz) the Philosophy of Religion (Harvard Divinity), Russian Literature (Brandeis), Neurobiology (MBL), Psychiatry and the Law (Harvard Law), Peripheral Neurology (Harvard Medical), Human Neuroanatomy (MIT), Roman Law (Harvard Law) and English (UMASS). I have studied under Paul Engel, James Dickey, Anais Nin, Robert Phelps, Harvey Cox, Alan Dershowitz, Mark Hallett and Walle Nauta. I have interned in Washington D.C. with two prominent private organizations. In the first as an analyst on National Healthcare Planning under Ralph Nader and in the second as a researcher on Defense Analysis and the Private Sector under Reuben McCornack. While an intern under Gabriel Kaimowitz in Detroit I did the discovery for a major trial in two hours, which the seven lawyers had been unable to do in more than six months. I have worked in the Neurobiology Laboratory of William Adelman at MBL and the Neurobiology Laboratory of Daniel Alkon at NIH at MBL. I have worked on one presidential campaign and one congressional campaign. I have attended the Asian Scholars Conference, Washington, D.C., the Science and Education Conference, Detroit, Michigan and the Science and Religion Conference, Turku, Finland. I am a member of the Boston Athenaeum, the Renaissance Center at the University of Massachusetts Amherst and the Frost Library at Amherst College. I have designed my modern cottage in the style of a Russian dacha. I have served on the Board of Health. I have visited my Native-American friends at the Seneca Nation Cattaraugus Reservation near Lawtons in Western New York State twice. I have traveled and camped in Western Europe and Eastern Europe four times. I have visited Russia six times. I have been over the railroad tracks from Rouen, France to Jalalabad, Kyrgyzstan. I have traveled and camped in Central Asia five times, with some time spent in Southern Siberia. I was at the ancient city of Otrar in the Kyzyl Kum desert. I was seen on a television program in Boston that dealt with Comparative Religion. I have appeared on national television in the Former Soviet Union four times. I was a member of the Fifth Avenue Peace Parade, the New Paltz Peace Center, the Clamshell Alliance and I took part in The International Peace Walk, Kazakhstan. I have lived for extended periods of time in Rouen, France, Bucharest, Romania, Tampere, Finland and Almaty, Kazakhstan. I have been to the far northeast of Norway at Kirkenes, which looks out upon the Barents Sea before going above 70 North. I have worked in the vineyards of Western New York State and in the apple orchards of Southern Kazakhstan. I have pailed maple sap in Northern Massachusetts and pulled in netted fish in Central Finland. I have written seven novels the first of which is entitled The World Before September. I have read my poetry at Harvard University and at St. Marks and it has been published in Iran, Kenya, Kazakhstan and the USA and a number of volumes can be seen at Poet’s House in Manhattan, and a memoir has been published in Tehran in 2017. I have received grants from the PEN American Center and the Massachusetts Cultural Council.
I have traveled in: Canada, England, France, Spain, Italy, Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Greece, Israel, Kazakhstan, Russia, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Germany, Switzerland, Belgium, The Netherlands, Palestine, Romania, Croatia, Monaco, Cyprus, Ruissalo (Turku Islands), Ibiza (Balearic Islands)
I have visited Eretz Yisroel twice. I have worked as a carpenter at Kibbutz Gezer. In Boston I, have recorded an album of Hasidic Nigguns (songs). I have studied at Yeshiva in Grenoble, France, Milano, Italy, Bnei Brak, Israel and Morristown, New Jersey. I have met the chief rabbis of Bucharest, Romania, Trieste, Italy and Helsinki, Finland. The Lubavitcher Rebbe personally gave me a place of honor at one of his Saturday evening Farbrengens (gatherings).
