About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Mission? Probably to lead a full life - to connect, contribute, and get around. Or maybe my real mission is to grow a big branch of Couch Surfing dedicated to retired people like us.

ABOUT ME

We are fairly recently retired - me from education, Charles from Tech Coordination in school system (formerly a potter). We are pretty easy going and like to be active and to travel. I am involved in community based efforts - last year the Paddle to Swinomish (google it) and this year the Skagit River Poetry Project - both as volunteer organizer.

PHILOSOPHY

Still figuring that out.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

We have a place for people to roost for a couple days. It's nice.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

None yet. Someone invited us - but then the date didn't work. And we invited someone - but then she didn't need the place to stay. Jury is still out.

Interests

Charles gardens, road bikes, and paints. In the summer when the weather is good, he does encaustics. He's a great cook. I am a volunteer organizer and am also engaged in local efforts through political efforts to enhance bike/ped opportunities locally. (I bike too,, but not as well, fast, or far as Charles.) When we travel, we like to go birding (though we aren't great at it), visit art museums, look at rocks, and hang out in neighborhoods - seeing life through local eyes. Life is good.

Music, Movies, and Books

I am in a book group - recent favorite was the immortal life of Henrietta Lacks. Listening to the story of Eva Peron. Read the New Yorker. Charles is eclectic - and does much of his reading online.

Like Pearl Django, gypsy jazz, old stuff. Does Pandora count. : )

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Anything new and unexpected is amazing - a great new museum, a perfect bird sighting (eg, something we can recognize and that isn't little and brown), an amazing moment in history (March on the Pentagon, for example.)
Amazement is situational.

Teach, Learn, Share

We can show you around here, take you for a bike ride, recommend hikes and go birding. Charles can get someone started in road biking or teach how to change a bike tire. Or we can just share stories about where we live or where we've been - or how volunteer organizing is going. I love hearing about people's travels. I am trying to learn some new tech skills - managing a website sort of. Would like to learn how you really maximize facebook (not for me but for a nonprofit I work with.)
