I recently moved to Astoria. I work about 6 months out of the year, sailing on research vessels around the world. I can't host guests but what I would love is to meet up with locals and travelers coming through the area, if I'm around. I don't know a whole lot of people in the area, and I'd love to get more involved in the community. When it's not pouring down rain, I love getting outside, riding my bike or going for a long hike. I travel and take a lot of road trips when I'm not working, so I can give excellent tips!

Why I'm on Couchsurfing
Back in 2011 I quit my desk job, sold my house and car, and went traveling abroad. I used couchsurfing to meet locals in Southeast Asia, and had a lot of positive experiences. It's a great way to meet people with different backgrounds and stories. Not to mention receive local advice on cool things to do that you won't find in a guidebook.
Music, Movies, and Books
I'm all over the board here. Music from Kings of Leon and Death Cab for Cutie to Amy Winehouse and Nina Simone to Sons of Fathers and The Spill Canvas... my favorite movie is Lonesome Dove, an old western. For books I like The Kite Runner, A Thousand Splendid Suns, and I gotta admit I like the sappy Nicolas Sparks novels.
