About Me

Hello!
I've been recently accepted as a new faculty member at the Universidade Estadual do Rio de Janeiro and I'm moving to Niterói, a city near Rio, right at the other side of the bay. I lived in Salvador, Bahia, before, also working as a professor.
When I'm not working, I spend my days cooking, reading and painting. I like to be outside and small music concerts, specially jazz and blues. I live alone, with no pets, although I appreciate them quite a lot.
I've been told I'm a kind and funny person, although I usually don't cach jokes as fast as other people do. I love to spend time alone as much as the company of others. Ancient philosophy and spirituality, on the one hand, and contemporary science and art, on the other, play a huge part in my life and I love to talk to people to learn about their interests regarding those topics. I prefer freethinking and creative spirits to conservative ones.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I love traveling and have been doing it for the last years, going to congresses and discovering new places - I've been recently to Lisbon, Paris, Bordeaux, Athens and San Diego. I usually stayed at hotels, but I guess they don't offer the warmth of human connection and communication that makes traveling so interesting. On the other hand, when I was living in Salvador, many of my friends from Rio used to come stay with me on holidays and vacations, and I loved taking them out to see the city and its surroundings. So I decided to join Couchsurfing as a way to engage in a bigger community of treavelers, both as a host and as a guess, to make new friends, and broaden my experiences. As I'm coming back to the state of Rio de Janeiro, I hope to meet up other couchsurfers and, as soon as the house becomes an acceptable place to live, host travelers that come to Niterói.

Music, Movies, and Books

Sivert Hoyem, Nick Cave, Leonard Cohen, Patti Smith, PJ Harvey...
I love all sci-fi movies and tv shows. Battlestar Galactica is probably my favorite.
I read a lot of academig and fiction books. I also love poetry. My favorite authors are Eudoro de Sousa, Georges Bataille, Henry James, Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen and Fernando Pessoa.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

It's not something that I've done, but something that happened to me: I had a mystical epiphany in Monet's garden in Giverny, and then in the L'Orangerie Museum, where his nymphees are exhibited.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Niterói's beautiful Contemporary Arts Museum, university and coastline. We have great restaurants in here, and the streets are lovely for an afternoon walk.

Countries I’ve Visited

France, Greece, Portugal, United States
