About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To suck the marrow out of life...feel it, live it, love it.

ABOUT ME

My husband and I live in the woods with our four fur balls. I left teaching (Montessori) to pursue a new career helping people and their pets. I scuba dive, hike, camp, cook, ski, play and generally love visiting new places. I've been just about everywhere in the U.S., a half dozen places in Canada and all over the coasts and borders of Mexico and finally left the continent in 2011 to visit Brazil, and since then, I've visited Honduras, the Virgin Islands, Caymans and, my favorite, Vietnam. My husband and I are currently planning our honeymoon (2 years after the wedding ;) to the British Isles -- my first time to Europe!

PHILOSOPHY

I steal my philosophy from others...these are my personal favorites: "I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived. I did not wish to live what was not life, living is so dear; nor did I wish to practice resignation, unless it was quite necessary. I wanted to live deep and suck out all the marrow of life, to live so sturdily and Spartanlike as to put to rout all that was not life, to cut a broad swath and shave close, to drive life into a corner, and reduce it to its lowest terms, and, if it proved to be mean, why then get the whole and genuine meanness of it, and publish its meanness to the world; or if it were sublime, to know it by experience, and be able to give a true account of it in my next excursion."
"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others."

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

So far, just meet-ups, though I did a few homestays in Vietnam that were awesome.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love all kinds of music...but I get wrapped up in the words, I'm a sucker for a sweet lyric. Movies must be good within the first 10 minutes or I'm asleep...the older I get, the less patience I have for films that plod, condescend or trivialize...but I do love a good mystery, fantasy, sci-fi...and then blow it all up with getting girly silly for those epic Jane Austin Merchant Ivory flick. Books...story, story, story...give me a good one and I'm yours. I love all things magical, science fiction -- and I'm a Marvel Comics gal. I tend not to like non-fiction but in short doses (love science and history magazine articles. :P)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I'm pretty simple...I get amazed by things almost daily. Each day when the clouds behave (by going away), I am amazed by the glorious Mt. Rainier. As far as things I've done...I'd say the one truly amazing feat was surviving "The Hike from Hades" on Ilhabela...thought I was a goner for sure...but we finally found the beach and civilization (kinda...a handful of people lived there, but 1 had a boat!). Most exciting, I spent 2 weeks by myself in Vietnam...everyday was the most amazing day.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you to Geocache...it is my current obsession...and I do it as often as humanly possible. If you happen to be in the Wenatchee area, I'll teach you to ski in the winter...I'm an instructor at the Mission Ridge Ski resort. And if you bring a guitar...I'd love to sing along with you.
