About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Right now I am travelling with Andrea and David from Rotterdam (The Netherlands) to the south of Spain. We travel by bike and without money.

ABOUT ME

I always find extremely hard presenting myself. What am I anyway? What others think of me? What I think of myself? What I was or what I will be? Honestly, I do not like labels. The person that I am now it is not going to be the same that it will be tomorrow in any case.

But if I had to define myself somehow, I would like to be described as are the main characters of my favorite movie (Amelie). So, here I come:

Lu likes dancing in her room when nobody is watching and waking up with kisses. However, what she likes the most is when she manages to light someone´s day up.

Lu dislikes the hypocrisy, when people don´t make a personal change just because they think it will not make any difference. Besides, she does not like is the discussions in which nobody listens to others and everyone tries to impose their own personal views.

PHILOSOPHY

“Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony.” ― Mahatma Gandhi

“Love is the only reality and it is not a mere sentiment. It is the ultimate truth that lies at the heart of creation.” ― Rabindranath Tagore

“Stop acting so small. You are the universe in ecstatic motion.”
― Rumi

These quotes resume quite well my approach to life. I try to live every second to the fullest. I understand the enormous gift that life is as well as its briefness. I do everything I can to make the most of my time on the Earth. Besides, I am aware that our beautiful planet is a wonderful home and we have the duty to take care of her greatness and preserve it for the generations to come.

Also, if there were a song that could sum up my life philosophy, it would be Imagine of John Lennon. Its lyrics are an accurate description of my dream society.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

For me the best thing about Couchsurfing and others traveller networks as Warm Showers, Helpx or Workaway is the opportunity of sharing time with people from different backgrounds. It does not matter if you are couch surfer or host, the exchange is enriching for both parties. Either the way, you get direct contact with other cultures and discover different ways of understanding life.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

At the moment, my Couchsurfing experience is short but really positive. My first-time surfering was 2010 in Reykjavík. I loved it. I didn´t have any other Couchsurfing encounter till last summer when my flatmate in Rotterdam (The Netherlands) became a host. We hosted travelers several times and it was amazing. We met really interesting people. Now I am travelling again and hopefully I will be hosted many times. I am so excited! I can’t wait to meet all the incredible people that I will share experiences with!!!

Music, Movies, and Books

This question is especially difficult. There are so many music, movies and books that I love!

I am a passionate reader. I have always had a profound love to fantasy and science fiction genders. Some of my favorite books are The Neverending Story, A hundred years of Solitude and 1984. I have to recognize that I am a huge Harry Potter fan. But lately I am reading a lot of non-fiction books too in particular about gender and feminism. One book that have changed me forever is Gender trouble by Judith Butler. I also love poetry. I am in love of Andrea Gibson, her slam poetry simply touches my soul.

With regards to music, it is hard to define my style because I have a quite broad music taste. I love the Beatles. As well, I listen to a lot of Indie: Imagine Dragons, One Republic, Orla Gartland, Birdy, Dan Wilson, Of Monster and Men…just to name some of the bands and singers I am into. Now, since Andrea and David are on my life I am learning to love many Spanish and Latin songwritters too. Besides, as an amateur violin player I truly enjoy classical music.

In the field of cinema, I generally like movies that I find visually beautiful or that include strong social denunciation. The last movie I saw and I love was The dance of the reality by Alejandro Jodorowski.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

- The gap year that I took before starting University. During those months I worked in Iceland and UK, volunteer in a kibbutz in Israel, travelled to Kolkata (India) and lived in an Orthodox monastery in Romania. I did all of this on my own and in just a year!!!

- Volunteering at Kalighat or The home of the Dying in Calcutta. That experience changed me forever

- Coming out. Sincerely, it feels great to be able to be myself and not feeling that I am living a lie.

- Overcoming my fears of failure and dropping out college to pursue my dreams

- Finishing a chapter of my future first novel

Teach, Learn, Share

“The world is my classroom, each day a new lesson, and every person I meet is my teacher.” ― Craig Harper

I believe that the main goal of living is learning. And I think that there is not a better way of learning that sharing our knowledge and life experiences with others. So, what would you like me to teach you? What would you like me to learn from you?

What I Can Share with Hosts

I am pretty good at cooking. I love to prepare vegan meals but, without doubt, the sweets are my specialty. I have to say that I make pretty amazing cakes and cookies, on many occasions raw vegan.

As I travel by bicycle, I am learning quite a lot about how bikes work and how to repair them. Therefore, I could help you to fix yours.

As I said, me and my friends are starting to live without money. For this reason, we can share with you our knowledge on hitchhiking, dumpster diving, freeganism, travelling without money...
